Lose whp going from open diff to vlsd?
I don't know much about the mechanics of a car but this is what a friend told me and he's been wrong before lol.
1. My diff is closest to the left rear tire so that is where most of the engines power gets sent and that's why it's always the tire that loses traction first. 2. Installing a vlsd will increase drivetrain loss which will cause me to lose some wheel horsepower. If this is true how bad is it? I have a vlsd sitting in my garage waiting to go in. I'm right on the edge of traction on my left rear tire in 2nd gear and stock rims/tires but still not spinning yet, if I'm going to lose WHP putting the lsd in then I think I'll wait until 2nd gear traction is more of a problem..

BAHAHAH. It might be like 2whp.
Not a big deal. Why would you think so? All good RWD Nissan cars in the 90's had VLSD's stock, sooo....

ive heard of something like this before. i knew this kid who had a AWD turbo audi A4 who swapped the transmission for front wheel drive. the logic of this was that since two wheels are moving instead of four wheels, he gains horsepower because more power is going to fewer wheels. i honestly think its stupid.
just put the fucking diff in and celebrate with a proper burnout.

Who cares its only like 2-5whp you can barely notice, its like adding an intake. you barely tell the difference, but you wont regret it.

You will definitely notice it with a VLSD. If you lose 2-5whp but have a 50% gain in traction. You're going to have a faster car.

technically speaking, it's a 100% gain in traction.
But let this thread die already.

This thread is stupid as fuck.
Put the VLSD in and run it. This is the first time in my life I have heard of someone concerned about losing power from switching rear ends.

^^^ He/she may be a girl or just some dude messing around.
Anyway, back on topic: Slap that VLSD on an enjoy a better feeling power delivery and some real traction. You're not going to loose any power that you'll notice. If anything you'll feel the car putting the power down BETTER! If you're seriously concerned about 2-3 crank HP, cut off your A/C belt right now and that will be the equivalent of putting on that VLSD. ![]() |
