Panty Hose

I know based on the title of this thread most people are going to think one of 2 things. Either this doesnt belong in the Tech section, or I just gave it that title to get more people to look at it. Believe it or not, I do have a question about Panty Hose, and as far as I can tell, tech is the best place for it.

Now that my SR swap is slowing coming together (6+ months and counting)I am starting to think of ways to keep it a sleeper. I plan to keep stock wheels, and stock bumpers and everything (atleast for a while), but my problem is hiding my FMIC without affecting its performance. Well, out of no where I came up with this odd-ball idea. What if i was to get a pair of black panty hose (or just a section of fabric if they sell it) and stretch it from the top of the bumper to the bottom??? Would the fabric reduce air-flow to a noticable level??? Would it look like ass???

Yes, I know I would run the risk of getting runs in my Panty Hose, but I want a sleeper, and that is the best idea I have come up with so far. Anyone have any better ideas?

I heard about going the paint route...or not really paint, but some word starting with an "A", but as far as I can tell that is expensive. As you could probably figure out from my Panty Hose idea, I am looking for a very cheap solution.

And as far as a similar question being asked before. I am pretty confident that I am the first person on this site to referance Panty Hose, atleast pertaining to hiding a FMIC.

Some of the Honda guys uses black pantyhose, and from what I heard it doesn't effect cooling. Not to steal your idea but I'm going to do the same thing, I think it's a good non-permanet solution. Good luck.

I figure the pantyhose would get dirty really easily or start ripping.

You can probably get some type of mesh or chicken wire to cover the bumper area and paint the stuff to match your car.

Also painting the FMIC the same as the radiator will help hide it.

I'd imagine powder coating would be too much of an insulator. Anodizing would likely be best, but you should be OK with radiator paint.

swain coating would actually increase your IC's cooling abilites but it costs a lot. I'd say just use black radiator paint, its less ghetto than panty hose.

Radiator paint actually helps keep the FMIC cooler whereas anodizing it doesn't help this and will still be shiny, but black.

You do NOT PAINT AN INTERCOOLER.

The whole point is to cool air by dissipating heat through the fins.

If you INSULATE the fins with anything (paint, powder) you are losing performance and ruining your intercooler.

Whatever you do, don't use your mom's panty hose cuz she's got built in holes in the crotch and that will show off that shiny aluminum intercooler.

A layer of paint will restrict the metal's capability to release heat and may clog some of the air passages. Pantyhose gets dirty easy but it gets clean easy too. I'm not sure how youre gonna make it fit though, they're usually really small. And I don't think that they sell just the fabric.

I'm not trashing the paint routine, it all depends on how much boost you'll be running anyway. Talk to people have done it, see what they think of it, that's your best bet.
