New to SR20DET s14 and looking for more than 14psi
Hi,
Am a new owner for SR20DET VTC s14 engine, all my life used to deal with BMW engines, and got few questions to as about, since I searched a lot with no straight answers to my questions, and hope that you can help me here guys, here below the engine setup Engine: SR20DET VTC s14 Chassis: Datsun 180b ECU: VEMS standalone Turbo: Holset HX35 Boost: 14 PSI Injectors: 750cc Fuel pump: walbro 255 The car till now pulls great on higher RPMs, you can feel the lag from this big turbo, but the car was build for this purpose, when the RPM hit 4000 you can feel the freaky power of this engine on 14psi. But am looking for more boost and power, so I wonder how much the engine internals can hold to! that is the max power rating for the pistons and rods? am considering metal HG to lower the compression ratio a little, while I was searching around I found out the the stock HG is 1.1mm, as I found Cosworth 1.8mm metal head gasket, anyone know what is the resulted CR with this gasket, and how much boost it can take before internal(pistons+rods) fall apart?? Thanks in advance ![]() |

Any reason you went with VEMS US | Versatile Engine Management Systems
Here is the link for other EMS ^ junkies ^ on the forum ^ You should be able to use up to 18 psi of boost with that turbo on stock internals granted the the catch is the tuning. If the tuning is spot on the motor will rocket with 14-18 psi max on pump gas. LMK if you need any help with map service too. Looks like a solid setup.

Am BMW tuner and builder, Nissan is something new to me, thats why I needed to know how much the internals can hold up to boost, and was wondering if lowering the CR would make me able to squeeze more boost on the stock internals.
Why VEMS? it's well known ECU to bimmers, and installed it on that nissan since am a bimmer, it works great on nissan, you can feel the massive power of that combo after 4000RPM. |

I was able to squeeze 475 WHP on 91 octane at the rear wheels on 19 psi total boost with STOCK pistons and STOCK rods, including stock bearings and stock ring lands and rings. We updated the Headgasket to a metal headgast from Apexi with the metal fire ring around each cylinder, this is a must, and also stronger head studs to keep it all together under pressure. You should be able ot squeeze something around this output at the same boost, I was using a GT3076R. I would suggest upgrading the pistons and rods if you plan on tearing the motor down, but if you want to have some fun in the meantime if the tuning is spot on you can go up to 400 WHP all day long...
