steering wheel removal

I am attempting to remove the middle of the steering wheel, where the airbag pops out at. I am trying to reupolster it in brown leather. Any info would be apreciated.

For what car? If it's for an S13, you need to remove the middle section first, just carefully start pulling it off as it is held on by some clips inside. Kinda hard if you don't know what you're doing but you will eventually figure it out. Then there is a 19mm bolt in the middle you have to take out. At this point if you try to pull off your steering wheel and it doesn't come off, you should get a steering wheel puller. I got mine at Kragen (Team Mechanix $11.49), kinda cheap (in quality) but it did the job. BAM you're done!

For S14, you need to remove the 2 covers on the side to get to the bolts that hold the airbag. I forgot what size, but you either need a T40 or T50 tamper proof Torx bit to get those 2 bolts out. I'm pretty sure it's T50 for S14 and T40 for S15. Then remove the airbag. Remove the 19mm nut in the middle. You know the rest! Good luck!

Thank you very much. Is it possible for me to pull the middle section were the horn and air bag are and still leave the steering wheel intacked.

yep you can remove the center without removing the wheel, since you have an airbag you will need that T50 bit
