Ebay/paypal Seller fund hold til you ship the item/receive positive feedback

Any of you guys dell with this yet? This is bs.. I sold something a few weeks ago in october and it wasnt like that. I been a ebay user since 2003 and have 100% positive feedback 167 feedback reviews. Been using paypal all of that time, sold stuff before as well.

Today I sold my old tamiya r/c cars (auction ended at a low $102) and well I can't collect the funds til I ship. (which is why i threw them on ebay because I needed cash )

Now basically what their policy is They will hold the buyer's payment til you ship the item and get a review on it (or 21 days whichever comes first). This is BS imo because you need the payment to ship your item. The only way to get out of that policy is to do alot more sales til they recognize you as a non-threat.

Alot of people are pissed about it. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/online/paypal_02.html

Now Id like to just cancel the auction and reverse the buyer's payment and rather keep my items instead of go through with this.

Wow. It's that bad already? I've been an Ebay member for over 10 years and mostly bought and barely sold. I stopped selling when their fees went through the roof. I just try to sell either on the forums or on CL. Sorry to hear that is happening to you and that some effed up $hit.

eBay lately has put so many rules and policy changes in that it makes it a horrible experience for sellers. Before they were a "Seller Friendly" site...now with all these changes they really don't give a shit about the sellers..now its all about the buyers. I worked for eBay for about 3 years and its a bitch now a days. Everyone thinks eBay is the biggest and best shit out there, but its not..

My suggestion to you is to ship the item, wait till it gets there.. email the buyer and let them know that paypal won't release funds until the items r delivered and once they leave feedback. This way if ur items are as described and everything is good, you'll get the funds released to you asap and positive feedback.

If u choose to cancel transaction, since eBay has become a buyer friendly platform now.. the buyer will leave u bad negative feedback.. and that's not all..eBay now a days dosent really care too much about if u have bad feedback or not.. they look at your DSR ratings.. if atleast 1 person leaves u a bad rating for customer service or for canceling a transaction, eBay will in so many words kind of red flag your account and restrict u to a certain amount of items u can sell a month, sometimes even put ur account on hold.

I know.. sucks.. that's why I quit eBay and now I'm working for Amazon!! Lol

Yep, ebay and paypal sucks now. Stopped using ebay ages ago and paypal several months ago. They have set my paypal account to a limited account because my brother has a negative balance on his paypal account and we live in the same house.

Screw them if that's the way they want to be. I hope their servers and backups all over the world all crash and burn.

I recently sold a camera on ebay and if you print a label through them the deduct the amount from what you received from the buyer! But you don't get the money until they give a review which sucks!

So what happens when the buyer is too lazy to leave a review?

Looks like Ebay really took off over the past 2 years.... probably international growth.

Wait, I am inclined to think this is bullshit.
I have ordered 10 things on ebay in the last 60 days (none of it car related other than light bulbs, lol) and NO ONE shipped anything until AFTER payment cleared.

The money shows up in your account as "cleared" (I think it says pending or something but means the buyer sent the money) but you can't do anything with it until the item is received by the buyer..

Okay, thank you...
That makes sense then, to me at least.
I have only seen it from the buyer's POV but I see what it is now

I think it's a good measure.

Inconvenient in certain circumstances? Absolutely. But obviously it's 10 times harder to get scammed out of something if a neutral-party holds the funds until you verify you recieved the product as described in the ad. I guess if you're dead broke and you need the money that it sucks, but if you're really that hard pressed for money go on craigslist or to a pawn shop

P.S. Never have, probably never will use ebay...and i'm suprised how many damn people use ebay! OMG! And honestly I didn't expect them to make so many sales in comparison with how many they were 5 years ago! I definitely wish I invested in ebay years ago!

That is what I am curious about as well. How would they 'force' the buyer to leave feedback when they receive the item?

This rule has actually been around for quite awhile. It used to be only on certain electronic items that had a high fraud report issue. Used Cell phones was one. I sold one of my G1 Android phone on ebay and they did that hold thing. I contacted the buyer and he gave me a positive rating and the money was released.

On a similar recent situation I had something on ebay on a buy it now with a multiple items.

I logged into my paypal and there was this banner saying from now on your funds will be held till item is shipped and received and feedback was left. I was like huh what?

First thing I did was go to ebay and cancel any auctions I had. I had sold this last summer and not had any of this shit and I am known for shipping pretty damn quickly. I have a 100% positiver user rating on ebay.
So I called up paypal and asked them what gives. They were like this is a new policy we are doing with everyone and we will look at your account on the 26th of November and if everything is good we will remove the hold rule.

Oh and they did say it was a direct ebay policy. I was like ya but most of the stuff I sell is not sold on ebay and I ship directly from paypal whenever possible.
I also told them this was crazy as I have had paypal for like 11 years.

I have since seen that these limits are strictly on ebay sales. It is strictly an ebay policy.

This is actually an anti small non business seller policy on ebay's part. If you check out the whole hold rule they have a clause that says if you have over like 150 sold with 100% user positive rating the hold will not apply.

Ebay is now geared strictly towards people running commercial business's rather than the single person or small guy.
There seller fees are such that unless you have a decent sized business its costly.

Ebay sucks these days. It's turned in a last resort status for selling.

They can't and this is where the policy is flawed. Lots of people buy stuff on ebay and don't leave feedback. At which point the seller is left waiting till either 3 days after product has been recieved or 21 days all determined by ebay.

Ebay/Paypal were cool at once and I used to troll ebay all the time for cool stuff/used parts to buy. Now it's like going to china man central. If it's not a dildo shift knob with 40 led's in it shipping from taiwan for $2.99 +$15 shipping then ebay doesn't have it. Now I do all my selling on craigslist and use google checkout for people who want to pay and ship.

Ebay's trying to be like amazon where every seller will kiss every buyers ass but doing it on the sellers dime. Surprise, none of the good stuff is there any more.

I had a similar situation. Sold my an Iphone 3G back when the 4 came out. I couldn't access my funds until after a certain amount of time because the seller never gave me posi seller rep. Even though the buyer never left rep after a time period which I think was two weeks. I could get my money. Its very similar to when you deposit a check and the bank puts a hold on it.

Remember when sheisty sellers used to list items at .99 buy it now but charge something like $20 for shipping to get around ebay fees?

Looks like ebay is now (or has been for a few months) including the shipping charge in their fee to get around this.... which is more bad news for sellers...

Is that even legal? Ebay is not the one shipping the item... how can they charge a fee for it?

What they actually do is the charge a shipping fee. This is indeed their reaction to the that whole thing.
The stupid part about that is their shipping setup is such that if you list how you ship they now how much its going to cost. There is pretty much not many ways a person would be able to mark the shipping costs up. Yet they insist on charging you the seller a fee for shipping anyways. I\

Like I said earlier ebay is no longer interested in individual people who sell stuff. All they want is commercial business's who sell all the time and even then their fees have become expensive.
They also are really not interested in the seller besides sucking as much cash out of them as possible . Oh and don't me started about the whole double dip deal on fees because ebay charges you a fee for a sale and then paypal gets theirs as well and paypal is owned by ebay.

Can we say collusion? Ebay is a fucked up company these days.

This does suck, but I can see their point in wanting to protect the exchange of funds. Ebay has been catering towards buyers for sometime now. I used to sell jewelry and hello kitty phone charms on ebay, and ever since they took away negative buyer feed back, it hasn't been the same. How will a seller know that a person doesn't pay for items that they have won? (If they have a non payment strike against them, a seller cannot see it.) Each week I posted multiple items, and several were purchased, I would say a good 1 to 2 items, a buyer did not pay. I ended up reporting them and putting them on my blocked list, but how would anyone else know that they are horrible buyers that sellers wouldn't and shouldn't want to deal with.

Well look at it through Ebay's eyes.... if buyers get ripped off they wont buy anymore and if there are no buyers there is no money. I'm not defending them or anything i can just see why you know?

I sell stuff all the time through here and stuff and use paypal. If you just use paypal but not through Ebay does the hold thing still apply?

No its only for stuff sold on ebay. Regardless of you seeing seeing it through Ebay's eyes its a quite common(these days) knee jerk reaction to a possible problem that penalizes everyone for the actions of a few. The metaphor "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" comes to mind.

Instead of fine tuning the system they just kill all or part of it. Sound familiar? It should.

Welcome to common American thinking and ways of doing things these days. LOL

They emailed me back regarding my complaint
Quote:
Dear xxxxxx xxxxxxx,

My name is Sonny from PayPal Consumer Support.
Based on your message, you are wondering why a payment holds was placed on your PayPal account. We know that this can be a stressful situation and we are glad that you sent us an email so we can clarify this matter.

Payment holds for eBay Items are part of the Safe Payments initiative. This will ensure that your buyers are satisfied; they receive their items in a timely manner and complete the transaction smoothly. As a result, it will be a better experience for your buyers and put more confidence in them, resulting to more sales for our sellers.

The reason for the hold is limited selling history / experience with PayPal or eBay.

To release the payment(s) on hold, you just need to complete one of the 2 criteria:

· 3 calendar days after delivery confirmation (with tracking number that can be tracked online)
· 21-calendar days without chargeback and/or dispute/claims

If you used a shipping company that offers online tracking, you can add shipment tracking information to the transaction on your PayPal account.

Here’s how to add shipment tracking information to the transaction:

1. Go to www.paypal.com and log in to your account.
2. Click 'History' near the top of the page.
3. Find the relevant transaction.
4. Click the arrow on the 'Print shipping label' button.
5. From the list, click 'Add Tracking Info.'
6. Complete the required information on the 'Add tracking information' page
7. Click 'Save.'

After you click "Save," the buyer receives an email that you entered the shipment tracking information for this transaction. The email includes the tracking number, order status, and shipping company.

Note:

The information in the email sent to the buyer appears exactly as you entered it.
We encourage you to correspond directly with the buyer to answer any questions about the transaction.

I also double checked the information on your eBay profile and PayPal account to confirm and it currently shows that:

- Feedback Score: 100% with 127 feedback mostly as a buyer
- Transaction history for the last 6 months: 6

Looking at it, I can say that as a seller you are on the right track and while the payment holds is applied to your PayPal account there are several things you can do that will help you establish good selling history with PayPal and eBay:

- Maintain good selling performance on eBay:

· An eBay feedback score of more than 25 for the past 6 months as a seller, - you have 0 feedback, you need 25 feedback
· An average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of more than 4.5, - you have 0 DSR, you need at least 4.5 DSR

This covers all eBay sellers and all eBay transactions are reviewed following the same evaluation process, to ensure mutual satisfaction and protection between our sellers and buyers.

It is our top priority to provide you all the information that you need and we appreciate your continued business with us.

If you have other concerns that need immediate assistance, please let us know by replying to this email or contacting our Customer Support Representatives at 1-888-221-1161 and we will be glad to assist you further.

Thank you for choosing PayPal.

Sincerely,
Sonny

Here is a screenshot of my ebay feedback as a seller for over a few years, granted it all wasnt in the past 6 months, and there is 1 missing from a recent transaction a few weeks ago (the person has yet to leave feedback , which is out of my control)
