about to get 240sx but car shaking around 40~50mph

just like the title says, i'm about to get 240sx with sr20det.

Its boosting at 10psi, and as i was test driving it, car is rattle? shaking? around 40~50 mph. I think i had similar problem when i had 300zx,

but dont remember how i resolved it.

Any idea??

Be more specific please.

it could be a lot of things.

Maybe some weights on the wheels may have fell off. So they need to be re-balanced

Something with the suspension

Etc, more details please.

Is it slammed to where you can't get under it? If not try and look at the front end suspension. Look at the steering rack, bushings, check tie rod ends. Best thing if you really want to buy it is take it to a shop and have em put it on a lift and look it over for you. Most would do it for a small charge or free. They could give you a good idea of why it's shaking.

It could be any number of things. Take it to a shop and have them look it over. Or do it yourself, but I would take it to a mechanic if you don't know exactly what to look for. Sounds like a bent wheel!

second this, when we get a complaint the customer stating the car shakes at highway speed (shimy as we call it) its usually wheel not balanced, bent wheel or even a bad tire(showing braids with big buldge or just completely warped tire)

LOL the car is in Socal, where rust is pretty much non existent.

This thread is a crack up. To the OP basically what you are experiencing is a common problem with 240's its not anything to freak out about.

Its most likely one of the above mentioned things but not some of the above.

so I will list the most common things that cause this

1. wheel balance issue ( i.e. out of balance front wheels)
2. Tension compression rod bushes are bad , this is a problem with almost all used 240's if the stock TC rod has not been replaced . The bushes are rubber and filled with fluid. Then tend to crack and leak.
3. Steering rack bushings are shot
4. possible tie rod ends or ball joints are shot.

those are the most common reasons for steering wheel shake at 40-50 mph.

If you go through that list and check each one you will most likely find your cause and be able to correct it.

Do not shy away from the purchase based solely on that use it as a bargaining chip.

Oh and if you had to ask about this? You should be taking the car to a competent mechanic that can check it out for you in the first place.
