the chevy sonic?

I just learned of this last night.
I dont usually follow new cars because in all honesty imo I think they are all garbage. Over weight, overly plugged in, underpowered garbage. That and I have consigned myself to the decision that if and when I buy a new car itll be an mk1 or 2 cooper "s" or a toyota IQ that I will rebuild with more of a bias towards short track/ auto-x type tuning.

But now I see this thing. And it comes stock with a turbo....?
Im kinda mauling it over as it looks to be the same size as a fit if not smaller and they are boasting the performance aspect of this car.

Anyone got some stuff to share about it? Im kinda worried cause its chevy and they are a bit touch and go in a lot of manufacturing areas....

Hot hatches are nice, but we all know the good ones chevy makes mostly consist of foreign parts, and not helping the North American economy at all. How about chevy get rid of its stupid union thats costing it money, then make an engine factory, and run the same engine for 10+ years. Remember the good old days of the 350? They ran that engine for many years, bringing in a lot of revenue for GM. Need to do that with a 4 cyl now.

If I were you, I'd just get an older GEO metro or Swift.... then do your modifying.

being people here care more about how it looks then how it drives...

If you're into FWD hatches...

Will rape either of the ones you mentioned and smile while doing it.

whhaaa new cars are nice.. the new VW Jetta, Passat and CC impressed me at the LA Auto Show. Ford Taurus is cool too

The Ford Focus ST is cool too. I also checked out the Sonic and the build feels nice, gauge cluster is cool.. New economy cars really stepped it up over the junkpiles from the 90s.

Saw the Chevy Sonic at the LA Auto Show. I was really impressed. Looks great too. I like the sedan version better.

it could have some sleeper potential.

depends on price, how well it performs, and how well it's received by the tuner market.
nonetheless, in that car segment it's really difficult to get anything with much performance potential.
I would be just happy with something fun to drive & handles well under 20k.
My choice would be the mazda 2.

If you can save 23-27k, you'll get much more bang for your buck imo, with the Gen Coupe, WRX, & tentative FT86.
33k really is the sweet spot when you can get the 370z, Mustang GT, & Evo X
Don't ruminate too much on weight, it's not the end be all towards going fast.

The Sonic is a really terrific little car for the money.

Go read reviews, it's far and away the most performance-oriented tiny hatch. Build quality has generally been excellent, etc. Definitely get the 1.4T though, the 1.8 is apparently harsh and not very rewarding.

owned a 1st gen MS3 and they are fast stock. it seems most of the tuning issues have been figured out by now too. i also think the 1st gen looks much better then the 2nd gen

there is also the Veloster, i just bought one. it handles pretty good. it isnt the fastest, but its as fast as any car in its segment. i also just took a 100 mile trip and got 43.5mpg

the new 2012 Mazda3 has a slightly different front bumper design. my dad owns a 2010 Mazda3. the smile isnt as bad as people make it out to be. its a fun car to drive, handles well too.

the smile doesnt bother me as much as that stupid hood scoop. i liked the sleeper styling of the 1st MS3

Every review I've read has said that the Sonic is one of the best handling cars in its segment. Plus, it looks good and has an available turbo.

I am driving the new ford focus right now. I rented the hatch and the coupe both for a week just to see what they were like. I very curious how it would do against the Mazda 6. my client has a 6 and she(yes SHE) loves it. she does canyon runs in it...... but from what Im reading, the gas mileage does not compare to the focus at all (2011/12 focus)

I'm reading more and more about the sonic. And I must say, I haven't read reviews this upbeat since the debut of the cooper....
Turbo is a plus!! I'm not really looking for to tune this car. this would be my downtime car when the other two are getting their tunes or gofast bits.

Trifecta offers a tune for the Sonic. they tune the Cobalt SS to some pretty big numbers.
