JDM R200 vlsd in&out output flange play - Video Updated

Hey guys,

I've searched on google and zilvia but I couldn't find a clear answer. Please excuse me if it is an obvious/noobish question. I bought a JDM R200 vlsd from ebay (not really sure what Nissan model it is off of) and its right/passenger side output flange has a little bit of in&out play. It's making sucking/pop sound when I move the flange outward. The left side is solid though. I was wondering if this is normal or it is something that I should take the diff apart then take a look inside. Could anyone please provide some suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

You can knock out the ears off with a hammer to inspect inside it. Only thing holding them in place is a ring clip at the end of the shafts.

So I guess the in/out play isn't normal after all. Do you think the ring clip is worn out?

When you said ears, you mean the output flanges? You can just knock them out with hammer without taking the backing plate off? Thanks.

Send me a pm. I'll check my r200v tomorrow to see if there's play. I've read about this before.

My left side has about 1mm of play (maybe a little more, but not quite 2mm), while the other side is solid. It's hard to move, but it doesn't pop though.

Something that seriously concerns me though is when you spin one side in your vid, the other flange spun the same way. As far as I know VLSDs should spin the opposite way, unless you spin the driveshaft flange (not sure if that's what it's called). That's how mine behaves too.

For instance with it installed, if you jacked up the rear end, and spin one tire one way, the other tire should spin the other way.

Maybe that's a welded diff?

EDIT: Now I'm reading the tires should spin the same way, so maybe the VLSD I just bought isn't a VLSD. lol
EDIT2: People are saying both, but I'm pretty sure they should spin the same way like yours. Sorry man, this means I just gave irrelevant information lol. You might want to wait before dropping it in.
