Maintenance: which spark plug wires?
Well, after owning my S13 fastback for about 5 months now, and not knowing when/if any maintenance has been done(probally hasn't for quite sometime) I'm in the market for some new spark plugs and wires. I was originally planning on getting Aurora plug wires from PDM Racing, but i've read that the connector tends to stay clamped onto the plug and the boot comes detached, thus having to re-crimp them to fix.
Should I just stick with the NGK wires? I was searching for the lowest prices, and $75 has been the lowest I've seen, at www.2kracing.com. Anyone know where I could find them cheaper? Another option I'm seriously looking at are Accel wires for about $52, although I saw no black, only Red, Yellow and Blue wires(wweak!!) They seem to be a bit cheaper than the NGKs, are they lacking in quality at all? As for spark plug replacements, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stick with the NGK V-Power plugs. I was thinking about the NGK Iridium, but read that the only real advantage is the extended life of the plug, anyone contradict this? Along with new plugs and wires, I'm getting a new distributer cap, rotor, o2 sensor, and using some Seafoam. After I run the Seafoam through the brake booster line, I'll change the oil/oil filter. Any other idea's to help me prolong the life of my KA w/ 170K on it?? Sorry to add to the numerous threads about spark plugs/wires! I just don't want to be unsatisfied with the product I choose. Thanks for your time, and sorry to make you suffer reading through this massive post!

If you don't EVER want to worry about the connectors coming apart, get a set of Magnecor wires. I had several wires self-destruct on me when the rubber donut stuck on the plug and the plastic pipe pulled itself free, and I noticed that the Magnecors have a beefy one-piece connector.
They're a little more expensive than the price you quoted for the NGKs (I paid $101 shipped from Option Auto Salon about a year ago), but are rock solid and have a nice warranty (sorry, don't remember the specifics offhand). I don't know about color choices, mine are red. |

I just bought and installed NGK Iridium Plugs and Wires. They work great. I bought them for $74-78 as a set. I say that NGK is a great company. I think I bought them on SparkPlugs.com. Good luck.

Cool, thanks for the replies peeps! I almost went the cheaper route and purchased the Accel, but final decision went with the quality Magnecor KV85 Competition Ignition Wires: 91-98, $91.53 from www.cyberauto.com
Waiting for confrimation e-mail back that has shipping cost, if it totals more than $101, I'm canceling the order and purchasing from Option Auto Salon. Now I just need to purchase NGK V-power plugs, distributor cap, rotor, and a fuel filter from pdm-racing.com when I get off work tonight! A little Seafoam through the injectors, and hopefully my engine will be running smoother ![]()
