Sr20det Runs like shit help
My buddys sr is running like shit. just put the motor in awaiting on a turbo to manifold gasket. Not sure if that is the cause of this problem but it leaks pretty bad.
Tried Maf so far. from my car(good maf). No boost or vaccum leaks wiring for maf is good too. car idles at 400-500. sometimes if you unplug the maf it bumps up to 900, but if you rev it it just dies. Car revs perfect except for a studder at 3k, when the car is underload it bucks really bad. its a type x motor running non type x harness and ecu btw. |

A bad exhaust leak will def create a problem with a Maf based setup. Check the ecu to see if you have any codes. If you don't have any codes then it's probably not a harness problem.

throwing maf code 12, ran the car with my maf, and it ran a little better. but still broke up. still waiting on the gasket to come in so we can change that. the turbo is falling off the manifold pretty badly. so im hoping that maybe with a good maf, and the gasket fixed it fixes it. cause its my friends car and i did his swap and now i feel bad lol

The engine temp sensor and O2 sensors are different as well but def get that leak taken care of.

Should be...I'm not sure how many wires the Type-X O2 sensor is though so you may need to do some rewiring
Edit: Ignore the comment about rewiring. Obviously if your running the redtop harness and ecu the redtop O2 is just plug and play

![]() I love the title of this post. LOL Simply because it's just so honest. Where are you located? If you can somehow limp it over to my house in Long Beach, CA area I can probably check and fix it for a small fee. Otherwise I would definitely look into IACV issues, ECU wiring shorts and wiring gremlins.

Nevermind you're in Philly.
Ok It sounds to me like you have the wrong MAF, or you have timing that is EXTREMELY off...i.e. the CAS or Crank Angle sensor is way way out of position. The other option is fuel. You fuel pump could be dying. Does the car see to be running too rich or too lean? And is there anything coming out the back of the tail pipe that could cue you into more failures? Thanks

I can pretty much guarantee there is a fub-up in the wiring. Make sure the wiring is 100% correct. Each maf has a different pin out and if one wire is off you could end up sending full 5 volts down the signal input to the ecm, possibly damaging that part of the ECU and also making the car run full rich at all times.

eliminate the ecu, either swap his to yours or vice versa, as long as he has no wiring issues, your ecu should be safe, maybe!

nothing will happen tothe ecu. you car will just run like crap if the other ecu is bad. Then you will know its a bad ECU and not wiring or anything else.

already went through this..at the importer place we bought the motor that had no harness on it, they gave us the ecu to go with it. didnt look that it was a j4. picked up a harness, wired it up. then car would barely run, realized oh shit itsa j4 ecu and the pinout doesnt match up with anything, so got a ecu that matches the harness and it started right up.

yeap fixed it..im an asshole..
extended the black and white maf wire with a black wire. So automaticly for some reason i soldered it to the black wire..switched them around and boom. car is good. Lol Idiot, I did all the wiring but the maf wiring at my house(so i could see how long it needed to be), then waited last minute at the end of the day to do that and i was tired and it was like 105 degrees out haha, oh well fixed now all he needs is a non hicas ps pump |
