Who knows how to get rid of spyware?
I've got spyware attaching itself to my computer. You know, when funky favorites appear without you adding them, when you get some kind of webpage instead of the default 404error. It's also slowing my computer. Anyone help me?

yes use both
they get rid of diff types of spyware Zoom's guide to safe computing: 1 - have an antivirus program [AVG is REALLY good, and its free] 2 - keep the virus definitions updated! and scan every week 3 - have a software firewall [examples are zonealarm and kerio] even though you have a router [router can filter data coming in, but not out] 4 - and just dont do anything else stupid like open emails from people you dont know |

software firewalls can get pretty complicated though. my bro used to have one, but then it kept alerting him whenever something was coming in or out, which was basically every few seconds. i know you can change that setting but then whats the point of not getting any alerts?
oh then he had problems with direct connecting in AIM, etc. oh and forget about playing counter strike hahaha. i know theres someway to take care of all these things, but it would take some time to research all the different settings and whatnot. so he just bought a router instead. ![]() |

its slightly like port forwarding on a router what happens is that, the software firewall needs to know which exact applications need to go out into the internet so it only allows those specific ones and not other ones like worms/trojans also, once it asks you to access the net, there is a box that you can select that tells the firewall to remember to always allow that program to access the net zonealarm is a little finicky at times, which is why i highly recommend kerio personal firewall. it really is pretty good, i use it on all my comps here at home |
