180 type S manual conversion

Hey there fellow zilvia members.
I just have a few questions that i need clearing up regarding a manual conversion for my jdm 180sx type S.
Will i need a manual ecu for the conversion? or can i use my current automatic ecu with the manual gearbox?
Im currently thinking of buying a sr20det s14 gearbox to fit it to my sr20de engine.

Now i have done quite abit of research regarding this matter so im not trying to get spoon fed here but since my car is quite rare.. type s being non turbo and automatic 180sx its really hard to get correct information over the net.

Any help will be appreciated
Thanks in advance

Danny

If you don't have an sr20det don't use an ecu for the sr20det. Since you're NA, use an NA sr20de ecu.

Bullshit. It will run perfectly well with an automatic Ecu.

yeah I've seen a number of Datsuns with NA SR swaps, and they SEARCH for automatic ecus so they won't have the speed limiter.

Does that apply to all auto ecu's that are used on a 5spd tranny? I had an auto ecu on my 5spd ca18det. I went and bought a 5spd ecu and noticed no difference. I should go back to an auto ecu. Lol.

Sorry for intruding on ur thread like that bro. Just wanted to know though

The way the engine runs should be exactly the same with a 5spd Ecu or an auto Ecu. The only difference is that the auto Ecu doesn't have the speed cut (since all auto trans had an external transmission control "Ecu" that took care of it, so it didn't have to be built onto the engine Ecu).

this is correct for our cars... however, i think this era is gone and over when it comes to newer cars like the vq powered nissans and such (z/g). these cars dont run proper when you remove a gauge cluster, i cant imagine them working right with the wrong ecu

You can use an auto ECU on a manual KA and SR. The noticeable difference is that the auto ECU lacks a speed limiter, there are others but the differences are so minor you will never notice.

That's right. I forgot about the TCM.
