replacing valve lifters?

i've got a SOHC and from everything i've heard/ been told it sounds as though a couple of my lifters may be toast, i've never done something like this before and i am wondering if i should attempt this myself or try to come up with money to pay a shop to do it.

I just deasembled my head to get it clean/machined, took me bout an hour all you really need is a spring compressir, and most places rent them and give you your money back.

HAHA, boy did i read this post wrong. The lifters just unbolt and the assembly comes right out. You only need a valve compressor if you are removing the springs, which is unnecisary(sp).

sorry if i confused you.
