T4 twin scroll turbo choice?
So I am due to take delivery of a heavily built, sleeved, solid lifter, brand new SR20det with a T4 full race divided manifold. The engine currently has a GT4088 bolted up, and I can't imagine how laggy it is going to be so I am trying to find out which turbo to get.
Which turbo for the most responsive setup? I know that no matter what T4 turbo gets bolted on, it's going to make more power than my S13 hatch with 275 Nitto NT05s can stick. I am thinking about either a Precision Turbo 5558 CEA, or 5858, as I believe that both can come with a .84 divided housing. The Borg Warner S200sx 7670 has also been recommended. If I were to go Garrett GT, they only make a 1.06 AR divided T4 and I fear in a GT35 it is still going to be too laggy. I have searched, and it doesn't seem that many people try to go for a balanced or responsive power setup in T4 (for the obvious reason that T4 is overkill for a 2 liter) |

I'd definitely recommend that S200SX in a 1.00 or 1.15 housing. It's a very responsive turbo in the smaller T4 housings, and dirt cheap considering it's capabilities.
If you're looking to make a little more power and have the budget, consider the GTX3576. It's a GTX3076 compressor with a GT35 68mm turbine. There's no loss of spool in the 1.06 housing from a 3076, and much better top end flow. There's at least one making 600whp on a 4G63 right now.

Thanks Poorman180. There's plenty of following around the GT and GTX turbos, and while Full Race endorses the BW, and other populations endorse the PTE journal bearing units as the best bang for the buck out there, I realize that these choices aren't the most common out there. Even figuring out the numeric nomenclature took me a while to figure out.
Upon further research I am leaning towards a Precision Turbo CEA Billet 5858 dual ball bearing, though I wouldn't rule out a S200SX 7670 .84 divided T4. For the next couple weeks of break in I will probably run the GT4088 and stay out of it. |

I think he's looking for something a little more responsive than a 3582r guys.
Stay away from journal bearing PTE stuff, Lord knows how many of those I've seen fail. Honestly I think bang for your buck you really can't beat the S200sx in the 1.00 housing. 4th gear 3600rpm 30psi...

My mechanic, and Full Race, both are endorsing the Borg Warner S200sx. After talking to him I am probably going to have him swap the T4 divided flange for a T3 divided flange for quicker spool. I guess they offer a ball bearing option for the BW and it isn't as much as other manufacturers charge for the upgrade (I think it was like $250?)
There's a GT3076 for sale on here for only $700 and it's tempting...thought it's not exactly what I was out for... |

Why you took t4 Mani ? Is there any benifit over t3.
In the precision line-up the ar. In the t3 and t4 are pretty close whats the big difference ?? Im going with one of those two on my sr20vet 86.5mm built 1- 5858 bb t3/vband ar.63 2- 6262 bb t3/vband ar.63

rbs14kouki: the T4 flows a little more air than the T3. Full Race sells T3 and T4 flanged versions for the SR20DET. Their twin scroll T4 manifold is for the big power players.
The one I have is a single wastegate but has a GT4088 mounted to it, and though the original version may have been a T4 single wastegate, their current single wastegate version is a divided T3. Anyway, I have a tentative deal in the works for a GTX3076R for which I will be buying a .82 AR Garrett divided T3 housing. This should make it as responsive of a setup as can be had in at a 3076 power level. From what I have read, the GTX3076 will spool about 300 rpm faster than the standard GT3076R, and when combined with a divided T3 housing should make it spool as quick as possible. I should have it all built and installed in about 3 weeks, then custom tuning on the dyno. Maybe I will have a dyno report by the first week in February. |
