Which engine can I use

I ended up getting a rod knock today and figure its time to swap out the engine. I have a 96 se with an obd2 in it but I was wondering if I can just swap out the long block from any year ka24de. If so that would be great. Also what should I look for in an engine. Thanks for any help.

Well if you use an older KA you may get a check engine light since there will be some plugs form your harness that have no where to plug into. Being that the KA is OBD1 or NON OBD. Other than that you should get a 96-up engine and just drop it right in. Or go SR20. Meh your choice.

as long as you swap shortblocks, you'll be fine.
if you swap longblocks, you should be ok (as long as you reuse same manifolds)

I live in michigan so emisions are not a problem, The previouse owner already unplugged all the emission items on the car so there not being replugged in. So you are saying that as long as I reuse my intake manifold I should be able to drop the engine right in? What should I look for in a good used engine?
