what do you guys do for insurance on your s13 investment

well, its time to get my s13 insured, granted i payed 600 bucks for the car, but i put 6k worth of stuff into it, and i'm wondering what you all do for insurance? do you just have it as a normal car, and if you get in an accident all you would get back is your 600 bucks? or is there a way to insure it for more than its worth? i assume if i say oh yeah, i wanna insure it for 6k because its got an imported motor and japanese front end...i don't know how thrilled they would be to even cover it then

for me, there's no sense in paying for things like comp/collision because the cost of the insurance easily exceeds the cost of the car. unless you have BIG money invested into an old car, there's really no sense in insuring it to the max because you'll end up paying more money in insurance than you do IF and WHEN something does happen. not to mention, you still have deductibles to pay should anything happen.

so, unless you're rolling on an S13 with a 10,000 paint job, 18x10 HRE wheels with S03 tires, and a motor with over 10k invested into it.. i wouldnt touch pay for such crazy insurance.

Depends on where you live. In cali or the DC area there have been lots of 240's being jacked lately. But anyway you can opt to insure it for its value, and you insure it as a custom car and declare all the modifications. you will probably pay more for insurance, unless you opt for one of those custom car plans where you have limited road mileage each year. Call your insurance and talk to them. Better to get it straightened out now (in writing, preferably) than after someone T bones you.
Besides unless someone really mangles your car your motor and most of the suspension and stuff should prolly still be in good enough shape to swap into your next car.

I use Prayer.. and Liability, getting full coverage on a 14 year old car is rather pointless, unless its a collector car, its going to get you the blue book.. if that.

I just make sure the insurance company will cover after market parts, then I keep a receipt of everything and cover it w/full coverage.

to put this in perspective:
I pay 800 a year for liability in WV. Someone did a hit and run on my silver hatch. they did 1100 dollars worth of damage and the adjustor tried to total it.
So for collision, even with a 500 dollar deductible, you are gonna be paying more in a year than your car is worth. And if you have a 500 dollar deductible you are gonna collect like 600 bucks.
worth it?????

i cant see how you can call a car an investment
you wont make money selling it after you mod it
its more like a loss of money
just have fun with it.

exactly. its a money pit. you only get what you invested if you drive it hard and have fun. just go with basic liability. insurance cos. out here will give you gried (not coverage) for aftermarket parts. if its totalled fix it yourself or strip, part out and junk. no way the insurance co. will pay for it unless they are one of the rare companies with special (high) rates for aftermarket cars.

I have liability only. Blue book on my car is about 1200. The insurance company wouldn't care that I have $8000 invested in it. Hopefully, if something happens it will be a wreck and not a theft. That way I can sell the parts or transfet them over to another car.

I've been debating with myself every time I get a ins. bill. I bought the car for 1,200 and I pay the same amount for yearly insurance. I'm not worried about someone hitting me. I'm more worried that my car will get stolen. The ins. co. (Farmers) covers all parts as long as you have the receipts. I find comfort in knowing that the additional $500 a year for full coverage will for the $7,000 in parts if stolen or totaled. I wish I felt differently. 500 would pay for four months of tires.

if you are worried about theft do a starter kill, removeable steering wheel, and a fuel pump switch.
Those things that lock the brakes would probably work pretty well too, especially considering that several thefts in DC with 240's involved tow trucks.

i have about 15,000 in my car and i just use liability.......full coverage is a rip off.......even if you wreck thats not your fault they whore you and your payment goes up every month, and they dont cover aftermarket parts unless you pay them even more money.........so i figure chances are if i get in a wreck ill just lose a bumper, sideskirts, tail lights, or paint at the most.........
