Personally, I'd go with a reputable name like Clifford or any of those alarms which offer some $2k-$3k compensation when your car gets stolen or broken into with their alarm installed.

Actually, Clifford is now owned by the same company (DEI) as Viper... and Rattler... and Avital. The run down I got while shopping for one is as follows: Clifford offers the most gimicky features, middling durability, and the best protection (i.e., most sensitive). Viper is next with a range from basic to almost Clifford spec - more durable and not as sensitive. Avital and Rattler are lower versions of Clifford and Viper, respectively. They can be built up to have all the basic features, but none of the really flashy ones. Their protection and durability is on par w/ Viper.
I know nothing about Alpine or ______ (that Audiovox owned brand that is also popular). Anyway, if you got an "at cost" deal on a fully blown Viper for $300, that sounds like a good deal to me. |

is there a way to get an alarm that calls your cellphone or pager or somethin? cauz otherwise its worthless. If i'm in a movie or at work or somethin i'm not gona hear it. Just one more reason why i'm gona put my (future) subs in/behind my rear pannels. Nobody will even know they are there and the amp will probably be under the seat or under the rear deck like the stock amps.

DEI is comming out with a carcom system which us clifford technologies since they bought them you can controll your car using any phone on earth. I use the clifford intellipage, the best I ever own so far. I can start, stop, arm/ disarm, roll my windows, stop a high jacker and many more from any phone for $5 a month. but the new Viper carcom will have more feature and should be in the market next year..
