Mounting plate (gusset) necessary?

SO i'm almost finished w/ gathering all the parts I need for my 5 speed swap. The ONLY thing i need now is hte mounting plate that goes inbetween teh tranny and the engine. But the problem is that I'm having a hard time finding it. Is it even necessary? I talked to somebody that said that he knows a lot of people that don't even have it in their car and took it out w/ no ill effects. What do u guys think? Should I not worry about it?

It's probably needed for something but after you do a clutch job and forget to put it back in. Fuck it.

I have been running without one for years. Same in my wife's car. No problems after like 8 years.

It keeps dirt and random crap out of the bellhousing. The random crap being shit like nails, we did not have one for a friends swap and somehow after a year a nail bounced up in there and jammed in between the pressure plate and the friction plate.

If your talking about the dust plate I would use it. If ur talking about the thick braces between the tranny and the motor, not too sure although after dropping a new motor in my 13 the a/t and m/t brackets seemed to be the same...

Yeah you need it, really. Unless you like changing your clutch often.

Not having the plate in CAN also put forward pressure on the crank and wear out vital engine components. Put the plate in.

if youre talking about the dust plate then yes you should install it, although some people have run without it. do the risks outweigh the benefits? also, if u cant find it you can just go but a square piece of sheet metal from home depot or a sheet metal supply or even a metal recycler and make one yourself
