What's going on here: SR Redtop MAF Wiring

Edit: Thanks for the help on this guys. Had no idea metal shielding like that even existed.

Had a friend help with the wiring a couple years ago when I installed my SR, and everything has run perfect ever since. I'm installing a new intake setup, and have to extend the MAF connector a bit. I was a bit confused as to what I found when I pulled back the tape/wire casing.

What I'm seeing:

3 out of 4 pins used in MAF connector:
MAF part# that I'm running:

3 wires coming from harness: black, white, black/white (normal)


What I don't understand:

The solid black and white wires divert into a gray wire casing about a foot from the connector. Within this casing is a bunch of lose wiring that I can't find the source of?? It looks to be extra wiring in addition to the 2 wires leading into the casing.

A little confusing. Is this some type of wiring that is not used due to the MAF I'm using? Any help with understand what this wiring should be connected to would be greatly appreciated.

That's just shielding for those two wires.

The signal and ground wires for the mafs are shielded, that's the black and white wire. Do not let any of the strands from the shielding touch the signal wire. The shielding is grounded(should be), a continuity test to the chassis or the ground wire will confirm
The black with white stripe wire is power 12v or battery voltage.

Instead of trying to match colors and such, get a multimeter and ecu pin out diagram and verify the wires location at the ecu, confirms color.
That same multimeter can be used to verify your work before you power the device.
