still guzzling gas faster then a tank

im still having a problem with my gas mileage..i replaced my O2 sensor on my S13, the fuel filter, spark plugs and spark plug wires. my cars muffler fell off a while ago, but that wouldnt do it right? my exhaust seems to be fine.. im confuzzled by all this. any ideas? btw, i get about 14mpg on my 138k mile KA.
ive used the search function, and nothing turned up that was relevant. 2 hrs of searching for nothing.. *sigh*

I had the same problem on my SR. Turned out to be a leaking fuel line from the filter to the hard line. I never smelled any fuel or anything. I just happened to notice a small puddle under the car one day. Check all your lines and see if maybe thats it.

um, single cam injectors aint gonna work on your dual cam. your dual cam uses side feeds while the single cam uses top feeds.

replacing all my exhaust gaskets (SR motor), cleaning airfilter and MAF, and newer sparkplugs did it for me. went from about 15-17mpg up to 21-24mpg city driving.

What year is your car again?
Have you tried testing your Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor?? If the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor sends a false signal to your ECU, your ECU will think your engine is still cold and dump additional fuel into your intake causing your car to run rich & get crappy gas mileage. While you are at it, check your timing..it should be at 15 degrees for 89-90 & 20 degrees for 91-98. Also check your idle...make sure you are idling around 700 rpm +/+ 50 rpm while your car is in NEUTRAL. Another way to increase gas mileage is to inflate your tires by a few pounds. If your tires are inflated to 29 psi, then bump the tire pressure up a few degrees..no more than 35 psi...check your tire ratings before you do.
There's a lot of stuff you can do to improve your gas mileage. First check the car for mechanical problems which can reduce gas mileage. After your car is back to tip top shape, then focus on your driving habits...A lead foot doesn't help.
Anyhow, hope this helps...

its a 92, so its got the DOHC in there. yup, i replaced the coolant temp sensor as well. my tires are in mid 30s already.. hmm. could it be my engine grounding or the fact that my exhaust is JUST a straight pipe, no muffler?

Damn that's gotta suck. How'd it fall off? Rusted? Anyhoo, you currently have no mufler? Just a straight pipe? Okay, how much of your exhaust system is modified? Just trying to get an idea of the cars status.

Also, remove your cat (if you've still got it) and check to see what state it's in. It could be that your cat is clogged. Hold it up to the sky and look through it. If you can see any light when you look through it, then it's clogged. You should be able to see a strange light reflection. If your cat is bad, that will cause you to run rich, and since you're car is a 92' (OBD-I) then it won't throw a code on you like an OBD-II car would. I know it's a bitch to remove but it's worth it if you've tried everything else. Also while you're at it replace the two gaskets in there. Worth it for 2 bucks a gasket.

sounds like fpr or there is a leak in the injector oring and its flooding the shit out of your engine which is also going to lead to blown rings and rod bearings.

An FPr is the "Fuel Pressure Regulator" This is located on the end of the fuel rail right up against the fire wall. It's a bitch to get to on 240s. You have to remove the whole fuel rail.

But since it was mentioned and it won't cost you any money to inspect, pull the fuel rail and check the injector seals. Check for any pinching or deterioration in the rubber. Also check the FPR seal. You have to pull the fpr off and there's a rubber o-ring attached to the inside end. Look at these and if you find any wear, that might be your problem.

Good luck.

are YOU talking about? You want to know how many O2 sensors an SR20 has? Well, if it's an OBD-I it has one, if it's an OBD-II it has two. I hate to tell you this but the dealership guy knows what he's talking about. He's trying to answer your question. I'm sure you asked him how many O2 sensors an SR has and he told you. 2: one in front(BEFORE THE CAT) and one in back(AFTER THE CAT). Maybe you should try being a little more receptive...just a suggestion.
To determine whether it's OBD-I or OBD-II it depends on the year of the engine. Again the dealer will be able to tell you which is which.

Oh also, being that I'm sure your asking for a JDM SR20 right? Well then maybe the USDM SR20DE O2 sensors won't even work for the JDM one. I'm not sure though, and even the dealer won't know. He deals with only the USDM engine obviously. As far as part numbers, I'm pretty sure the dealer can't get JDM O2 sensors for a JDM SR20. Sorry.

um, the dealer can get a part for any nissan, they prolly wont want to do the work though, and it would take a while, also, japanese cars didnt have obd1 or obd2, its a USDM thing, do you happen to have the old o2 sensor? i would take that in with you, and clairify that its not a fwd ser sr20, tell him its a japanese sr20. im not sure how many wires the sr20 o2 sensor is, but ill bet its a 4 wire, and prolly a 14mm thread, not the 18mm thread size of the KA24's

Are you sure about that? because I don't think they have the JDM cars in their setup for their computers. Well maybe your right. Hell I don't know I don't work at Nissan.

As far as the USDM O2 sensors, nsilviaracer said the dealer kept talking about the Sentra SE-R SR20DE. So that just means he needs to be more clear to the guy. And if the guy still doesn't know how to help him then maybe he should try the website dealers. Won't SRSwap.com have something for him? I'm a KA driver so I don't really know about the JDM SR O2 setup. I was basically trying to explain the Sentra stuff. Oh well....

Huh, that's cool. I've actually been pretty lucky i guess when dealing with those guys. They always know what I'm talking about and are pretty knowledgable about certain swaps, like 300zx brakes on a 240.
I'm refering to the Bay area Nissan dealerships.

srswap had a part number for it but when my friend and i tried to use that it came back wrong so i am taking off the old o2 sensor this weekend and take it with me, and its a 3 wire setup

the skinny end is for a Red top engine and the wide connector is for a black top SR20DET

I'd agree with checking the fuel lines if the car is running fine.. I found i had a small leak in the fuel line under the car near the gas tank.. it was a very slow leak, but I was gettin real crappy mileage. Found it when I was working on my car and saw the line was wet and smelled like gas. maybe when your muffler fell off, it might of hit it? Dunno..
