brake pad retainers

hey i got a quick question. i was checking the rear pads on my s14 and when i took the pads out one of the little metal pad retainers broke from rust. i couldn't get it back in with the broken retainer so i just left them both out on that side. i drove it around for a few minutes and it seemed ok but im a bit worried. so, is it okay to leave them out? thanks!

I never replace 'em...

They're "anti rattle clips", and not needed. Good to have and use, but not needed.

they're just for noise reduction.... I think you can also buy the brake pad noise reduction grease/gel if yours start to make noise.... some pads come w/ those lil clips, or at least my Hakws did

You can buy them from the dealer for under $10. You can use white lithium grease to quiet the brake noise from the retaining clips as well.
