Front lower control arm - torque spec
I'm looking to replace my front lower control arms soon and noticed that there's this one bolt with no specified torque setting in the S13 UK Manual (circled in red, please see attached file).
Does anyone know how tight it should be? These are standard S13 front lower arms I got from Camskill to go in my 180SX. Thanks in advance. |

The torque specs for attaching the knuckle/spindle to the transverse link with a ball joint isn't found in the US FSM either.
All other torque specs regarding attaching something to the front lower control arm or attaching the front lower control arm to the front cross member are the same as what is found in the US FSM.

Look to see if there is a trq spec for the rear ball joint. If there is, use that. If not, 30-40ftlbs should be enough. It gets a castle nut and a cotter pin, so as long as the ball joint is seated in the control arm, you don't need to go sky high with the trq figure.

For the rear ball joint in the US FSM the torque specs are (7.2-8.8 kg-cm or 52-64 lb-in)

I've always tightened it down to where the cotter pin slips through the castle nut after a spacing or 2. I've never gone crazy tight. I've never had any problems either afterwards.

Thanks for your help guys.
I'm surprised there's not more help on this floating around online. Surely, I can't be the only one who has had this problem. I know plenty of people who are anal about torque specs. |
