My car has a similar problem. It is because the release cable is rubbed through in the wheel well. The latch does not return to the closed position, I use a screwdriver to push the latch back.

get some of these and never worry about it again. plus noone can open your hood without a key

I'f I had an aftermarket hood, not a fan of hood pins on stock hoods.

hey just fyi there would be no hood pins to show for above the the hood, just a flush latch.
