V8 or SR?
I am kind of torn both ways.
Currently I have an sr I like it and it feels good I'm just wondering how it would be to have an sbc. My car is my dd but I also have just started to drift at the track and also do some 1/4 miles. When I look into sr builds it seems like they dont really reach much over 500hp not to say that it's not a lot but the cost to get close to that for the sr seems steep compared to something like a 350 where you can make power pretty easily. ( just using it as an example) What're some ups and downs about both and maybe some other ideas for swaps or even just upgrading what I already have? (gt2871r, 550cc injectors, z32 maf, etc is what I have) One thing I seem to notice on ka-t.org is the big numbers people can pull out of the ka is that somethign to consider over a chevy engine? Not trying to get hate I am just wondering about some of the experiences and what some people like and don't like. |

Once you get in the 500hp range stuff gets really expensive...if you want to keep it running for long. Hell you can throw a gt30 and go e85 on that sr and get 500hp out of it pretty easily...even an ls1 is going to cost you some money to put down 500whp. Just depends on what you want. Hell the ls1 with a t56 can get just as good on gas on the highway or better than the ka...so many options.

Yeah so many option thats why I'm kinda at a cross roads of where I want to lead my car haha. I wouldn't really wanna go e85 because where I live theres no where to really get it unfourtunatley but i do love the sound of a gt3076.
I'm trying to look into all possible setups to see whats cheap-ish and most enjoyable. |

Why 500hp as you will have no traction and a big Dyno queen. I like having 300+ to the wheels as there is not much that will keep up.There is too much he sometimes.

I'm just using 500 as an example to what minor scale limits some engines have.
I know with plenty of money you can make an SR well over 500hp. I'm just wondering what experiences people have had with different engines and why they think they're better. I love my SR but I wonder if theres something better I could work towards doing be it swapping it or just upgrading it if that makes sense. |

well, dollar for dollar, the LS1 will cost more to swap than the SR. but only marginally.
after you get the engine in, the $$ per HP ratio will be MUCH higher in the LS1. LS1 Cams / Heads / tune / intake manifold will cost around 2500.00 and will get you damn close to 500 whp. an SR20 cant get near 500whp with $2500.00

Being LSX, I'd say stay SR. Reason being that you are already SR. Why waste the money to do a LSX swap (don't believe the hype, they are expensive to do right)when you have a great platform now. Also if you have a want/need to "get low" LSX is a total PITA to get closer to the ground without totally smash a 1000+ dollar exhaust (if using Sikky or Fueled headers). Another thing to keep in mind is to check for tuners in your area, not all tuners are equal.
I agree with everyone above, big hp isn't need for a fun street car. Remember these cars are light! The best thing to do is figure out what you really want to do with the car and stay the course! |

I'd go stock ls or even a 5.3 truck motor. There cheap and will be plenty fast enough. You can leave it stock for now and play with it when you want to. Your fuel mileage will also be really good for a dd with that much power
