SR20det: is there anyboy that makes a hard intake pipe?

I've searched this board and 240sxforums, and found nothing about a solid pipe for the intake on an sr20det. Does anyone make any, or am I gonna have to get someone to custom make one for me?

I've also been searching for a hard pipe to replace the stock rubber one. All I've found is the HKS suction kit. It has the pipe, filter, adapter, couplers, turbo inlet, and some other stuff for like $400 bucks. It would be good if you were building a new setup and mising alot of stuff, but that's more than I want to spend right now for an intake. I was going to try to fab one using IC piping from projectsilvia.com, but they were out of the 45 elbow that I wanted to use. He did say that they were thinking about making an intake pipe.

I think we should use this thread to drum up interest for a piece like this. I've wanted one for a LONG time to replace the crappy rubber hose with that wierd spring inside. The one thing this intake tube HAS to have, though, is a bung on the side for the recirculation fitting. Other people might not care about recirculating their BOV, but most have found that an atmospheric setup is crap.

So, how many people want this? I would totally buy one. It needs to be of high quality and it needs to bolt right up to the stock setup. I'd pay up to $150 for something that worked well and looked nice.

I was gonna get one custom locally but it seems that no one can do mandrel bent stuff. I'd have to buy the pipes and then take it to a machine shop. I'm sure there's gotta be a shop with all the hot rod/domestic shops here but I'm having trouble finding one.

Yeah I'm interested, if the price is right!

But on the other hand if I can get a local shop to start making them and distribute them and then sell them to you guys!

I'm in, but as uiuc stated it needs to have the inlet for BOV recirculation.

Otherwise, NO DEAL.

And it needs to come in a black finish too.. no bling for me.

Well, I agree with Kazuo's need for BOV inlet...but not the black. It can just be raw aluminum or something. Kazuo can rattle can it

Apex-i, greddy, and HKS make kits that have a metal replacement for the rubber/plastic intake pipe.

The Apex-i Super Suction kit can be had w/ either Z32 maf or stock SR maf. places like www.phase2motortrend.com and other hks/ apex/ greddy dealer can get their hands on them.

typically the Z32 maf kits come w/ the adapter harness also. Apex and Greddy's kits do, HKs i would have to check their pricelist.

I've brought this thread back because I want to know if anyone has had any success on a cost-effective (read: CHEAP) metal intake. I could have swore that I once read about someone using a Civic intake pipe on their SR....but I've searched and searched and can't find it! The HKS's price == rape. I mean damn, there should be a decent market for these.

I can take the idea to a place I know. They made 100 pairs of chrome hard intake pipes for the 90-96 300zx tt's. For the 4 pipes (to intercooler/from intercooler on both sides) they sold for $280 w/ silicone couplings and chrome t-bolt clamps. Im sure he could get it down way more for just the one pipe and couplings. Whose interested in a group buy?

To be honest, I'd have to see the product design first. As long as it's pretty cheap and has an inlet to connect my recirc valve to. But toss it to your friend, I'm sure a lot of people would be interested. The stock one is pretty lame.

s14

I am making one out mandrel bent 3" steel pipes. I will have it done in a couple of days (cause i have a day job). I will test it for at least a week and post the gains if any. it is going to be made for a 97 240sx with a s13 redtop. the s14 with a s14 SR should be slightly different due to the location of the turbo to the chassi, the same goes for the s13 with s13 SR, but it shouldn't be any more than a rubber coupling could fix.

couplings should be enough. Think about all the aftermarket intakes there are out there..Injen, AEM, etc....metal pipe with silicone coupler
