SR short shifter in a KA will it work?

Just bought a C's Short shifter off of ebay.. it listed "JDM C's SHORT SHIFTER S13 S14 R32 R33 Z31 240 300 Z"

But not until after the auction it says "This is a C's short shifter from a RB20 DET Skyline. It was installed, but the box and manual was still in the car. This shifter will fit SR20 transmissions, and RB20 Transmissions"

Will it fit or am I screwd? I did a search on "short shifters" but all I got was results from the For Sale section

If it fits an SR transmission, it'll fit a KA tranny.

CA, RB20, KA, SR, VG30E, all the same transmission. Common knowledge.

Another question. I just installed the shifter, but for some reason the plastic cap on the end of the shifter(where it connects to tranny internal linkage) is larger than the female connection on the tranny. So I took that part off, now it's metal to metal, but the shifter goes in. The throws are dramatically decreased, but is it normal to be able to lift the shifter up about 1/2" to an 1"?

I read the installs section, but it didn't say any

I read the installs section, but it didn't say anything about having so much play when you lift it up, since the old barely had any.

Thanks in advance.

You forgot to install the metal spacer ring, eh?

And for that bushing...it should be in there, just sand it down a little and pop it in. Tighter is better.

With the left cover removed, it fits in nicely. But I think that's what gives me a lil buzzing sound. The stock cover (right) I highly doubt will fit, cause the C's shifter's "ball" is about the same size is that plastic thing. I might have to force the left cover in the shifter input in order for it to fit... any other suggestions? I guess i'll try shave it down a bit to make it fit.

Another thing I might add.. Is then when it's in gear, it doesn't have any vertical play, just in neutral.

More pics...

I've had experience with a couple of C's shifters. Basically, a brand new S14 C's shifter fits all RB trannys, S13 and S14 trannys according the to owners manual just like yours.

Your looks odd though. The plastic bottom piece should not be that big at all. It should look exactly lilke the stock piece. Also, the square machined metal piece looks a bit thick. Here is an example of an S13/S14 C's that fits perfect (I bought this particular one myself from Japan):

I would almost be 100% convinced that it would fit without problems looking at that chassis list, but the physical aspects of the shifter just don't look right. That plastic piece makes all the shifts very snug and eliminates any play.

Well with the bottem piece removed, it works fine. I took your advice on the redline heavy gear oil, and it seems to work well. Not that there were any problems from before. Pretty much preventive maintainence.

You think they know about KA transmissions in Japan? It's not like they're doing USDM tight installs of KAs like the lemmings here in the US do SRs.

Hmm...everybody said the KA and SR shifters are interchangeable but for some reason the shifter i got from my SR tranny was different...basically i tried to use my KA short shifter and basically the stud after the ball is taller than the stock SR one so I ended up jes using the stock SR shifter.
