got a FREE apex N1

ok, heres the deal: a friend of mines mom has a paypal account that i always use to pay for my online orders. I ordered an apex N1 exhaust from an online company, however after about a month of waiting, i was told it was on backorder. So i canceled the order and got a refund via paypal to her account. About a week ago i received the exhaust anyway. My friends mom says i should 'do the right thing' and give them the money'. I say its a free exhaust, and if htey ask for hte money, give it to em. But she wants me to contact hte company and get it straightened out. I just wanted to know if this had happened to anyone else before and what they did about it. What are my options? I'd come forward without them asking and give em the money. Don't be a dick and do the right thing. You wouldn't want to be on their end and have to eat that much money. If you don't want to pay for the exhaust, at least let them pay for you to ship it back to em.

Being honest is the way to go. If you aren't, it WILL come back on you down the line. Also, it may come back on your friends mom, could get ugly in the courts and just be a plain mess if things aren't cleared up right away.

Give em a call and explain what happened. There's a chance they'll say "Ah, we fucked up. Thanks for letting us know. Go ahead and keep the exhaust since you waited so long, just remember us the next time you're buying something." I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this happened.

I think you should be honest about it and give them the money for the exhaust... I know what its like to be screwed over for that amount of money (I'm not a company, but still)... and I think its morally wrong. If I had the opportunity to screw the guy over like he did to me... I still wouldnt do it cuz of the morality of it all... I'm pretty sure that right now he might think he got away w/ it, but he will have to pay the consequencesindirectly in the future, as would you if you kept the exhaust w/o paying...
I guess what I'm tryin to say is do the right thing, cuz even if you think you got away w/ it, you will have to pay in the long run.

but not for a $550 exhaust that cost $120 to ship.

he would have to spend $2500 on high margin products VERY SOON in order for the company to recoupe their loss.

but on the other hand, what can they really do if you refuse?

but seriously, if they are a reputable shop that hooks up these boards or any others for that matter, then there is no doubt that you return that thing or pay up.

I figure worst case senario is i have to pay for the exhaust, which i originally planned to do. ill give em a call tomorow and see whats up, i appreciate the responses, sometimes greed gets the best of me, and when you're used to getting fucked, and then a strike of good luck hits you, u dont wanna give it up ya know?

actually, no its not a reputable shop, and they have PATHETIC customer support and after i orignally paid the 48o somethin dollars they wanted originally, they wanted me to pay another 45 because apex now sells them as 'aluminized' instead of stainless steel, so i sent them a total of like 52o bucks, but of course it all got refunded. I think thats false advertisement, but it seems to me they did it to make up for shipping costs

You didn't state this, but I am assuming that you haven't purchased another exhaust.
A. If you have, make them pay to get their stuff or keep it if they dont want to pay for shipping.
B. If you haven't, call them up and pay for it.

Something similiar happened to me. I bought this torque wrench on eBay for super cheap. I only got it for lug nuts and it works pretty good, I think. Anyhow, I emailed the seller asking if I could just pick up the torque wrench instead cause they're located 15 minutes from my residence. Instead of paying in cash, I decided to just PayPal them. I'm a drummer. Once i ordered a couple of things from a mailorder and they sent me 2 of the same $200+ cymbal, and some other things that i didnt even order. I didnt know what to do, so i just kept them, and never looked at them again. Needless to say my favorite cymbal mysteriously cracked a few weeks later. Karma is real.
