So with a sequential transmission, is the clutch used at all? Watching the WRC, it doesn't sound like there's enough of a gap in revs for them to be hitting the clutch when they shift. Or are they just really fast?

you pull or push the shifter. That's pretty much it. The shifter senses when the driver moves the shifter and it atomatically clutches, cuts the gas, and moves to the next gear. The shifting is all done in a straight line. I watched this special on on speedvision and it had a whole thing on sequencial shifting <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='

Sweet. I knew it was just push/pull, but I didn't know that it actually clutched for you and everything. What about taking off though?

Oh man. We had a [B]huge/B] debate about this over at www.vwvortex.com a while ago. "So, your going to pick up your new F50, stick or sequential?" Everyone debated about how stick is more fun, but sequential is more performance oriented (F1, WRC, etc). I think the best point made was: "Wait, I'm going to pick up a new F50? WHO CARES?!?!" Jeff

<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> what happens if you hit a like a big bump or something and it shakes the shifter... Would it try to shift? What falls are seen with it? <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

for future reference, there's an edit button to the upper right. If it's your post you can edit it. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

its not gonna shift if you hit a bump. the shifter isn't all loose, its a solid set up. there are still notches or whatever that you push or pull the shifter into. i dunno how to explain it all that well.

similar but a lot slower and probably only used for commuting purposes, when someone doesn't feel like shifting through traffic <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
