Your 240SX Goals

Eh, might as well. Some people want to drift, others grip, still others just be a little sporty. What do YOU want?

Get in-depth. Tell us what you want and why you want it.

My goals:
- 1-plus g lateral acceleration, in both directions*
- 69-plus mile-per-hour 700-foot slalom speed*
- close-to-neutrality
- sub-112-foot 60-0
- no brake fade on my favorite mountain
- 13.75-second quarter
- very-near-stock reliability
- sleek, eye-catching car with minimal aero
- decent comfort (i.e. not fully stripped interior, doesn't look ghetto, women actually wouldn't mind riding in it for short periods of time)
- chassis rigidity surpassing modern sports cars'
- as close to 50/50 front/rear and side/side weight distribution as possible
- brighter headlights (not that I'm complaining about stock twin-projectors... but it'd be nice to have some blindingly bright high beams for those late-night runs)
- a couple one-off parts, just for the hell of it; made by myself and my friends
- a decent alarm system

*Street tires, same suspension and alignment settings.

That's all for now. Some goals might change depending on how I go with the motor, but it's either KA-T or NA SR.

I want a highly capable car that will be immense fun at driver's schools, track days, drift days, autocrosses, or random mountain runs. I'd also like the ability to list off truly quick lap times at certain tracks, just to silence the naysayers who claim my car isn't running enough negative camber, doesn't have enough aero, or is the byproduct of a fad.

Let's not make this another declaration of modifications, more a declaration of intent. Don't feel the need to one-up the previous poster, because in the end, it's YOUR car.

Coilovers
Really interested in KTS coilovers, just waiting for them to install the Brake Line Brackets before I go for them.

[v]LSD
Rode in my friends AE86[w/ its stock GTS VLSD] when he did donuts. Right after riding in his car, he rode/drove with me when I did donuts in mine because he wanted to know how it was like with Open Differential... No comparison at all. So now I want to at least have a VLSD because I would like to learn how to control my car with LSD when I grip and try to drift

Chuki Front Bumper
Got a pignose with a lip. Going to put the lip on the Chuki like what most people do. Mainly want to do this before I try to get a Kouki front bumper, because I don't really like the turn signals on the Kouki and I won't be able to install the Chuki:

White/Yellow Turn Signals
Really attracted to these for some reason Has anyone tried to put the Chuki turn signals on the Kouki? or does it look :ghey: ?

Those are my current achievable goals as of now. I have the money for the Coilovers and maybe for the LSD, which are my main concern. Some other aesthetic stuff that I definately want to get in the future are also Kouki tail lights and a Wangan spoiler to replace my stock spoiler.

*edit*
I can't speel.

Id like to have a fun car for driving schools, track days, and sunday Auto-x's.
I also enjoy cruising around and id like to have a clean look going. my boro styling, that im rocking now, is not too appealing.

I'd like to continue beefing up my Multi-Link. Possibly replace my cheapo POS ST sway bars. And maybe scrap my Cusco's and get a nice set of Dampening adj, inverted strut, beefy coilovers....ZEAL...
I'd also like to finish my brake swap. I've got GTO 5lug hubs and n/a z32 rear hubs. along with z front brakes and s14 se rears. I'd like to get a hold of an '86 z31 or s12 se-r 15/16 MC before i even install my brakes. I'm technically held up on finding a set of 30mm calipers and some nice tires for my z32 wheels.
I'd like to find an OEM aero silvia bumper, install my sideskirts, all associated body work and paint. Im either going with Acura championship white, or i'm going with a pewter color. I cant find exactly the paint code i like. Im thinking maybe its a lexus paint. But its a pewter color.
KA-t setup is planned for the future. The engine will be pulled when painting my car this year, and i will install my slightly rebuilt block and a machined, ported and polished head with bolt ons.
As far as the interior goes. it'll be comfortable. I dont want to get a full cage, I'd rather pick up a 4pt, and add some braces here and there and get that painted with the car as well. I also dont want race bucket seats, i'd rather get a nice set of OEM seats with good bolsters, s14se's or maybe some skyline seats. new 89-90 style carpet. My Audio is all purchased, just not installed. I have a Kenwood cd/mp3 player with sirius satellite radio. I'm running Kenwood kevlar 61/2"s in the back deck hooked to a mtx 280 watt 2 channel amp. the fronts are Pioneer 4x6's right now, but i plan to install memphis audio 6 1/2" component set up front in the doors.

All of this while making rent, paying my extravagent bills, trying to find a house and afford a mortgage, and not wrecking my car.
good luck to everyone else on their venture.

Primarily a drift car that attends some autocross events
What I want outta my car:
Lightweight = A/C, most useless motors (seatbelts, antenna, wiper, etc) and interior crap already gone. Next step is fiberglass parts and lexan

Very stiff suspension with good feedback, better coilovers (right now Tein HEs, wanna upgrade to Tein RS), suspension is pretty close to being done though, got most of my arms, bars etc.

Finish the interior, get a full custom roll cage that can get my car onto any track

Fix my damn hubs, oem new wheel bearings and studs (staying 4-lug), loose the frozen-on wheel spacers, and I still need a brake upgrade

S15 turbo, S15, ARC or HKS SMIC - Goal is reliable 250-280 hp with no front mount

Spray the car again with flat satin black, keep it looking low key but awesome

And most importantly, keep making it to events at least twice a month

I'm into grip driving so I will stiffen up the chassis, get more power from a KA-T and change the exterior to the JDM kouki look...because I like to keep it clean and simple. So far I'm 1/3 complete.

as far as build goals go, I'm almost done.

I've been here much longer than most of you. Back in 2001, I set a personal goal of either building my car or buying a house. "Built" would include the SR engine swap and various go-fast goodies, as well as doing a s15 front, kouki 180sx rear conversion (minus rear quarter windows).

I'm ALMOST done!

Everyone says that hte s15 front is "played out", etc. Maybe so, maybe not... for me, it's following through on a goal I'd set 4 years ago.

I just bought a house.
My SR has been in for about 2 years now.
Kouki tails are on, kouki wing goes on with my s15 front that I'm assembling now. New paint and a little interior attention and I'll consider my goals met

Somehow it looks like I'll get all of this accomplished WITHOUT my wife divorcing me! hehee! *knocks on wood*

A race car. Suspension with NO bushings, all pillowball joints. The lightest chassis that is still safe. The highest hp N/A KA in a purpose built drift car. that's all.

Make it really really nice, and super clean. I want an RB2xdet,LSD,and super stiff suspension;but soft enough for me to handle daily. I want it to be quick, but no race car (lol) . I'd like everything just to be really nice, clean, and modified where it can be.

Plan for now until summertime is to set-up my suspension to be able to run an RB engine. new bushings, strut braces, power brace, tension rods/etc,300zx brakes all 4 corners. Once thats done, its time for a new engine, baby!! The plan would be to go ahead and replace the timing belt and headgasket,flush/change all fluids before install. I also want to get an FMIC,and turbo exhaust then too. After that,it'll be body....and interior.

But this is a loooooooooong term plan. Basically it came down to making the 240 really really pimp/nice,or buying a new car. 240's got it!

I don't think 1+ G in 4 directions is possible on street tires unless 275's give you tons of grip over 205's. You can get .99g peak, and .88 sustained on azenis without coilovers (OMG! unPOSSIBLE) and 205/50/15's though. That gives you 160ish feet 60-0. I think you'd need a much longer contact patch to get better braking distances, so maybe larger tires or ones with better tread pattern for braking. If you put coils on and slammed the car lower you might be able to get 1.1 sustained, but on the street a low ride like that would bounce around everywhere because of the high spring rates.

112ft 60-0 would be pretty difficult unless you get the braking down and really adjust the bias around. I'd guess its impossible without slicks actually. Its well over a -1g braking.

The 240 will never be as rigid as a modern sports car. That would fix most of the 240's problems right there!
