As you lift the knob there are some wires. The switch is a simple open and closed switch. I suppose you would cut the wires and wire them to an actual open or closed switch somewhere else.

but I've never tried. The only thing Ive ever done is remove the knob, break the wires, and rip the entire assembly out for a manual or chevrolet transmission.
