Frankenstein Turbos. Changing Turbo Compressor/Turbine Wheels?

Hey guys, I've been reading up a lot about changing compressor and turbine wheels for Garrett turbos through various forums (mostly the DMS boys) and it seems possible. I'm looking to swap compressor wheels on my GT2871r 48trim turbo to a GTX3071r compressor/turbine combo but still retain the T25 flange layout.

Obviously the housings will need to be machined, but just wondering what everyone's experience has been changing wheels and such. Is a re-balance necessary? What companies are good to do this kind of swap that still exist today?

I know S chassis owners usually just buy a whole package turbo but some insights on this stuff would be cool to hear from instead of just DSM guys.
