Differences between 95 and 96

just curious about mechanical or electrical differences in the 95 and 96 ?

i know one is OBDI and the other is OBD II. so difference in ECU?

or is the 95 OBD II?

just curious and a little confused.

(i searched didnt find much =/ )

Yeah, some 1995 cars are fully OBDII, but unfortunately the 95 240sx isn't one of them.

There's a differen't harness, ecu, and there are more sensors in the 96+

And of course there is the front grill.

Its just a bunch of little things. It's a little more organized under the 95s with the wires.

Some 95 SEs don't come with a sun roof which is a find.

i thought i heard that they switched to OBDII toward the end of the 95 model year, so a small percentage of the 95s have it

hey thats what I have. I have a find, lol.

Do 96's have different gearing or better output than the 95's? I ask because my friends 96 has always been faster than my 95 and we have similar mods I can't figure out what the difference is I even weigh less than he dose so it's not weight.

Black engine bay is standard on Blue Emerald, Mediterrean Blue, Concord Gray, and of course Super Black.

Sunroof is optional on both base and SE for both years, there's no standard as to which year has more/less.

All USDM 95 S14s will have an OBDII port, but that doesn't mean it's OBDII. It just means you can hook up an OBDII scanner and scan for a generic code. If your OBDII plug is on the passenger side you're most likely running OBDI, if it's under the driver side you're fully OBDII.

Sorry to threadjack but:
Being a 1996 OBD2, does that make a Redtop swap more difficult at all?

No....but good luck passing emissions (if you have it at your state).

BTW...your car is also fully OBD II when you have all that crap around the intake manifold.

well emissions i am not to worried about, because i can just pass now before the swap, and get a 2-year pass. So i wont have to worry about it for 2 years, and in that time, i am sure i can figure something out. So other than that, putting a Redtop into a 96 s14 wont be any harder at all than usual?

Wiring is the exact same. You're pulling out what harnesses have the changeover.

There's a greddy kit for 96+ s14. I have a 95, so I'll have to modify the kit in order for it to work with my car.

How so? I remember someone on this board had that kit on his 95 and I don't recall any modifying.

Mine has more miles than his but his engine blew at like 165K so I think mine was in better condition or is in better condition w/ 203k on the clock. I don't know but his was faster than mine even when he had a passenger and I didn't. Also when he had 17" rims I was just barely faster than him. So I thought maybe the 96's had better out put or something.

The difference between an OBD I and OBD II 95 model production year is that the OBD I 95's has a one wire 02 sensor and uses a carbon cannister in the EGR system. Later model OBD II 95's switched over to a three wire 02 sensor AND got rid of the carbon cannister on the EGR system. The OBD II 95's switched over to a completely different EVAP system ...hell if I know what it's called....all I know is that you now have a square cannister underneath the rear passenger quarterpanel & a small round looking vacuum type cannister in the engine compartment next to the front passenger shock tower right next to the intake manifold....???
