240SX Exhaust

I just discovered that my 240SX has two mufflers, one a little after the cat and then the one at the end. The one in the middle needs to be replaced since the entire area around the outlet is missing, which caused quite an increase in noise and emissions.

My question are as follows: Is there supposed to be a muffler there? Would replacing it with piping cause a loss of backpressure or anything like that?

Just have some tubing welded in it's place. You won't notice any difference.

That's your Resonator. It will be loud if you don't have a turbo.

Don't worry about backpressure it's a myth. Just have a muffler shop weld in a new res. Stock muffler sounds like crap without a res.

that part doesn't effect emissions at all, noise yes.

replacing it with piping should be fine, it will get quieter because you will no longer have an exhaust leak, but it will be a bit louder than stock. if you don't mind a tad louder and a throatier groan then go for it.

Thanks guys, I'm not the most mechanical guy in the world, more of a computer guy, but I sure love driving the things! I was planning on replacing my muffler then also with a Megan Racing M-N1. Anyone have any good or bad things to say about Megan Racing? I don't have a whole lot of money so I can't afford a brand new HKS or A'PEXi system, and the Megan looks pretty nice I think.
