Think my vlsd is dead?

I just got a '91 hicas model a week ago. I was thinking of ordering a good set of tires for the car as I knew the ones on there were mixed and matched. What I DIDN'T know until today was that someone decided it would be a good idea to put a 195-60 on the left rear and a 205-60 on the right rear. Is that enough of a difference to burn up the fluid and kill it?

what the fuck.. ?

Even if you had a 15'' tire on the right, and a 16'' tire on the left, it wouldn't mess up your differential. Maybe cause the viscous couplings to be used more, but no big deal at all basically.

and 195 and 205 have to do with width..... so it wouldn't really affect the 2 axles rotation acceleration at all really. Unless if it was a 205/50 on the right and 195/60 on the left. Either way, it's not going to affect your VLSD.

Also, damn, tell those idiots to switch that 195 for the 205. haha. that sucks

vlsds are stronger than you thought. Change the fluid and see what's up.

Sorry for the newb question, but I am coming over from DSMs and I know that if you were to run a slightly different size tire on the front or rear, it burns up the center differential pretty quickly.

The height number on the tire is a percentage of the width. So yes a 205/60 would be slightly taller then a 195/60. This setup probably did add some wear on the diff, but I wouldn't guess that it burned it up completely.

yeah, i was told never to have different size tires because of the diff or i would get shot..i haven't had any trouble because i've stuck to this policy <3

It should be okay. VLSDs only react when the fluid heats up anyway, ie when you're turning. Yeah width does make a difference and also factoring in tire height (2nd number is ratio of the first)
