Hey all. I am new to this forum. I just got a 1991 240sx SE, and the clutch is giving me problems as of last night. (its been driving fine for over a month now) I took it in to the shop, and the mech. told me the clutch master cylinder is going out. I dont have the knowhow to fix it myself, or I would. He wants to charge $50 for the pasrt, and $65 for the labor at 1.5 hours. Should I go ahead and have him do it?
How common is this problem?

Its not a hard job at all. &nbsp;I have replaced mine and you only have to unscrew &nbsp;3 nuts. &nbsp;( about 30 mins) &nbsp;I brought one for
$20 from the wreckers. &nbsp;You dont need fancy bleed aids. Just pump the clutch for about 5 minutes.

Yeppers, going to do the job tomorrow on my own. Got the new part, and with the repairs i made today, that will be just one more thing to add to my 'increased skill' set . . &nbsp;he he he.

FOLLOW-Up and details on how to replace master clyn for Clutch:

1.) remove teh holding pin, and cotter pin under the steering column area where the rod is connected to the pedal bar.
2.) remove the line going to the master clyn. (make sure you do not get any fluid on your paint, as it will eat through it, of you do quickly rinse with cold water and wipe down)
3.) remove the 2 (should only be two - late 80's and early 90's &nbsp;models) bolts, and pull tme master clyn. through
4.) get new part, and breaker bleed the new master clyn. Ok, here is teh best way to breaker bleed if you don't have a bleedng pump, etc. a.) fill the resevoir on the new master and replace capb.) place thumb over hole, and manually pump rod till fluid sprays out.) continue this 3-4 times/pumps, without removing your thumb!
5.) replace hole plug on master clyn. *it should come with a nifty plastic/rubber plug
6.) adjust length of rod and connection housing
7.) install the new master, by first connecting the pedal bar to the rod under the steering column
8.) replace two nuts over holding bolts, and then reconnect line
9.) you will again have to bleed both the master and the slave clyn. again, from this point. It should take in all, about 30 minutes to replace, and bleed the system

TIP: if you replace the master, go ahead and replace the slave clyn as well. Most come in kits with both, and you will be ensuring a good clean hydraulic pressure.
