Z32 MAF (beating it more into the ground)

I know this topic has been beat into the ground already... but I've still got a few questions after searching. I'm an MR2 guy so bare with me a bit. I am going to be doing a bunch of work on my friends SR20 here shortly and I just want to make sure I've got this all right.

The plan for the next set of mods is
- Z32 MAF conversion
- Adjustable FPR
- SAFC
- Injectors

My understanding is that all you need for the MAF conversion is to wire your existing harness into the 300zx harness. Then set the SAFC to 0 and it will have that all dialed in. Then we will just have to tune the injectors.

With MR2's you pull fuel with your FPR and add fuel with your SAFC.... same deal with the SR20?

Where is the SAFC wired into? and also... is an SAFC enough to control the injectors (I'm trying to convince him to go EMS or standalone... but he's just not budging)?

Lastly.... what size injectors do you guys recommend?? Right now he has a redtop sr20det with an S15 turbo, fmic, 255lph fuel pump, greddy type s (side question... doesn't a bov vented to atmosphere make you run rich??... hopefully we can tune this out with the safc also), 3in exhaust (downpipe, testpipe and catback) water injection and a mbc.

I'm sure some/most of this has been discussed... but I searched... and it didn't answer everything. Thanks everyone.

z32 maf harness splices into sr harness with addition of a ground wire(although many dont go through this step, it is proper). z32 is bigger diameter sensor and needs an adapter.

safc can compensate for z32 maf, and 555cc injectors, dont know if it will go bigger.

safc wires as a piggyback to ecu... which means it taps into throttle sensor, power/ground, tach and interupt circuit to maf sensor.

search apexi america for documentation on its settings, its very simple and straight forward.

safc is two fold. it trims fuel curve by adjusting maf voltages the ecu sees. yes this affects fuel, no thats not all it affects. sr ecu's detect load/boost partly from maf. in adjusting for bigger injectors u will reduce maf voltage. this will reduce fuel, but also reduce amount of timing that the ecu pulls out of the motor during boost. just something to keep in mind. id say safc coping with 555cc is good for 1 bar or so(personnally i run 1.2 bar), anything close to 1.5bar and all my friends are switching to standalones.

WHen you say the Z32 sensor needs an adapter... do you mean from the MAF to the turbo.... or just for an air filter? I finally got all of the documentation from apexi (extreme dialup speeds... living in the middle of nowhere sucks) and the setup is pretty straitforward like you said.

555cc's it is.... I was thinking 550's... so I guess its about the same. Is there any need for a pressure regulator?

I'll probably have a few more questions once I get into this mess

Thanks again.

z32 maf, needed a adapter from air filter to maf and adapter from maf to inlet hose(the one to the turbo compressor inlet). the adapter from air filter to maf might not be needed, but i had to to make a new one for my specific ghetto version, ive heard some have 2 sets of hole, or major slotting that lets u use 2 types of maf sensors.

check out phase2motortrend, or some site, they sell nice adapter/harness kits. lil pricey though

im not running a fpr yet.
