lsd dead?

well i got my kts coilovers on yesterday and now i am one wheeling it open diff style when i have to angle into my driveway. all the power is pretty much going to the wheel off the ground and i have to go pretty fast and hope my wheels will catch. do you think that the fluid in my piece of shit vlsd needs to be changed out? fluid has been in there for 2 track events and aggressive driving. or is my diff shot and i need to finally get a clutch type?

Fluid has NOTHING to do with your VLSD working...the viscous coupler that locks the wheels is sealed, and once it wears out, you have to replace it.

...but one-wheeling it into a driveway does no necessarily mean it's dead. The VLSD 'locks' when the fluid in the coupler heats up...and it tranfers what power it can to the other wheel. If one can spin freely, however...the other will only get maybe ~25% of the power, which isn't enough to move the car up a hill.

Does the wheel that's in the air move at all? (hint: next time you pull in, come in slow, let the car almost stop when the wheel in up...then give it a good amout of gas. As it pulls up, and the other wheel hits the ground...it should give a good "chirp" if it was spinning)

hey brian, yes the wheel in the air is the one spinning and leaving marks on my driveway. when i come in slow my RPMs will go to up like 2 or 3k and im not going anywhere. that is when the wheel is spinning. this happens regardless if i just started the car or if i have been driving for 20 mins or more.

Hold the brake down a little while coming in the driveway.

Sounds like it's fine.

No limited slip will pull you up a driveway with one wheel in the air. A locker/spool/welded diff...that will.
