Car Totalled..

Alright guys.. I'm sorry if I'm asking this.. but my friend really wants help... I know it's not related to nissans, but yeah. Listen up.. he crashed his car the other day (Tuesday) and now, his car is basically an insurance total. He drives a 2000 Civic hatchback (EK version) with lots of Mugen/Spoon items on his car. Someone cut him off, and he slammed on the brakes, and although his tires stopped, his car kept slidding, and he ran into a curb. His bumper/lip/grill and frame is messed up now. The main problem right now is the frame. He went to shops, and shops said that the only way the the that frame can be touched is if the car has a salvaged title. His car's fairly new, being that it is only a 2000. I know it's bad.. and illegal.. but does anyone know any shops that would be willing do fix the frame.. being that it's illegal? I would be a huge waste to put a salvaged title onto it.. Thanks guys.. I'm just trying to help out a friend.. Oh yeah.. his radiator was pushed back into his motor.. so that's the frame problems that we'll be dealing with..
We live in South California.. so the closer.. the better.. thanks again.

That's a load of BS... they should be able to fix your car w/o a problem.

I'd help you out but I'm in NorCal... if you can't get it done down there and you really wanna bring it up here, I can refer you.

Good luck

That's what I was saying.. but he went to 3 different shops, and they all said the same thing. I don't think that bringing the car up there would be possible.. the car isn't running too great because I believe the radiator was smashed in.. etc.. but thanks..

eh, could be more then just a front end damage... some people just dont know.....im willing to bet that the suspension could be wacked, and front gaps are pinter.. oh well should of had full coverage... if he could of afforded it..

No, the suspension was not beat up, or.. maybe only allignment.. but I don't think it was because he said the fender isn't even touched.. so obviously the wheel well wasn't either. As for the full coverage.. it's too much for someone that's 18 that drives a 2000 hatchback..

well dude
i can give u some advice, get a welder , and a whole complete chassis front clip from a wrecking yard... and start drilling out the spot welds and do it ur self... cheapest way to fix, use a measuring tape and a chassis diagram start doing some cross reference measuring.. and start welding...

i highly doubt that any parts wrecking yard would have a new model in stock... so hunting is going to be tough... very tough.... good luck with it....

excuse me for my arrogance as i am not too familiar with this subject, but are you saying that it is illegal to touch the frame without a salvaged title through insurance or at all? i dont get it. no shop is willing to touch it through insurance or mess with it at all?...ive never heard of anything like that...so he hasnt contacted the insurance company and wants to fix it out of his own pocket?...dont really get insurance technicalities, i just pay the shit...but yeah, if you were in norcal, i know a couple...my car is actually in one of the shops getting the frame pulled. very competitive pricing and high level of professionalism with no questions asked...

Well, thanks for the help (up there), but basically that's what my friend told me, and checked out like 3 shops in Riverside.. if anyone knows anything, please post! About the welding of a front clip.. that's a little bit scarey.. unless it's something professional doing it.. Now about the 'doing it ourselves' part, I told him that's what we should do, but he didn't want to do that.. he's pretty big on his car, and doesn't want to "cut any corners".

DIY isnt cutting corners, its saving money. If you take time to look into what you're doing and dont cut corners while you are doing it then you save money and learn a LOT in the process

lol, i dont know guy..

spot weld cutter and a drill, a sheet metal knife, die grinder.. a chassis diagram with measurments... good ole measuring tape... a welder... some roloc pads, some seam weld... some bondo. all paint stuff ..
this is just a short summary!!!!

start remvoving bent chassis parts after the car has been thru some pulls, to pull the creases out before u ever start welding, use sheet metal screws to keep everything solid.for aligning body panels and welding...once its all fitted.. then start spot welding the parts from the clip to the chassis.... use seam weld where it had when it came from the factory... grind down the spot weld.. fill in the pinholes with bondo with ur finger... sand it smooth.. spray some primer.. sand it with like 325 grit... and paint wah lah... better then before...

I told him to do that, but he's just one of those people that don't trust doing it himself.. he wants 'quality professional' work.

Not to be a prick(cuz unfortunately i made the same mistake ONCE) but if he's really big into his car why didn't he not buy some parts and put the money towards full coverage.

Yeah, he is big on his car. The problem on with full coverage is this. He's 17. Full coverage on a 2000 hatchback would be well over $4000 a year. Think about it..

sounds like nor cal is the place to go. i know of people as well in the area. i know people who gotten into an accident, went to frame alignment place and still clean title. and insurance paid for everything why? because if you went to a good body shop, if the accident look a lil more than ding or something, they would bring it there to be inspected. while there my friend did some tweaking (out of pocket expense) but not reported to insurance.
