Best Headers For A Good Price?

i was planning to get a header soon. i hear everyone downplay every company, but then again i hear good reviews for every company too. im on a budget, not a tight one, but i dont want to be spending $400+ on a header. i dont plan to turbocharge my KA anytime soon. maybe in the late late future. i plan to keep it around for awhile, maybe my life. but as for right now, i just need some good input on some 'above average' header. thanks. and IF u got HP stats/engine maintanence after the install/sound quality.

Heres a nice set of headers.

on a serious note, I hate you becasue you said maybe for life, and where you live your could probably keep it for life, (mine will be a rust bucket before that), then again, unless I turned this thing into a complete beast, I wouldnt want a 240 for life. it would be nice tho to slowly throw few grand a year into it for a while. but anywaywhy get a manifold if your not going to turbo, if you turbo later, then get a turbo manifold, nyway, complete waste of money imo, unless u drop cash it will be mildly slow, just get some worthwhile mods, like suspension or just something other than a manifold.

and btw, wtf do they even make upgrade manifolds for ka, non turbo, and double wtf for downpipe on N/A. I would completely disregaurd this thread but youve been here a year and a half so I figure your not completely stupid or being a fuckhole, please explain. thanks.

the obx is not the same as the hot shot. It doesnt have the same ceramic coating as the hot shot and has been known to crack. You get what you pay for.

I don't know, I haven't had one, but from what many people have told me, and what I've read when i searched, I've found that many come to like the OBX. Though it's not 'brand name' like a HOTSHOT, it's well worth the money. You can get it for under $200 shipped. I believe it's in the same design as the hotshot too, just it's not brand name.

I got the OBX cause it was SS. I was going to ceramic coat it but got it and had to put it in. I've had it for ~2years with no problems. I would coat it if I had to do it agian cause it does get hot after pushing it.

That's odd, I've never heard of anyone having problems with a OBX n/a header cracking. I've had mine for over a year with no problems, and for 8+ months of that the only things supporting the exhaust where the header bolted to the engine and the hangars on my muffler. Even through that it didn't crack.

Header. Singular.

And there is no $400+ header even offered for the KA. Hotshot is $300 or so, everything else is cheaper.

And if you buy a header, you won't be using a downpipe, it replaces the OE one.

I've heard it gets cracks around the bolt holes, but thats probably from people torquing the bolts too much? I dont know....but it doesnt have the ceramic coating witch casues higher temps. I guess it's just personal prefrence.

Well in doing my research OBX and DC sports are the 2 top headers on the market. For the price I wanted the OBX, but it doesn't carry the smog certification. So I got stuck with the overly expensive DC sport, but the results are great. I would say if you live in Cali get the DC sport, if you live any where else other than Cali get the OBX......
OBX $165 on EBAY
DC Sports $390 on EBAY through Kamura Racing

you may have already made your purchase with the OBX but what it all boils down to is the type of metal your dealing with.

Read this article if you haven't yet, http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question172.htm
Mjjstang definatley needs to read it... "wtf do they even make upgrade manifolds for ka, non turbo,"

If you can afford a fully stainless steel 4-2-1 then go for it regardless of the brand.

ThatRicerDaniel, Daniel your that ricer. jk. Color changing is great, its like showing off your new bowel to your friends after a week of smoking and guesstimating how much darker it will get.

Yeah those are OBX. I was planning on getting some, but I figured I was going turbo anyways, so I didn't get some, and the 'funky' color sort of bothered me.

Again, a 4-2-1 header's price is simply dictated by 2 things: (1) selected metal for construction & (2) market competition.

All i'm saying is OBX seems to be the header of choice not because of some crazy performance gains that are well above Hotshot or anybody else cause that just isn't the case. OBX is forced to compete with the Hotshot name so you'll find more or less the same product coming from OBX considering the metal & the piping diameters are the same.

What's important to understand is that our engine's are all relatively the same, thus the formula for decreasing back pressure and increasing over all engine performance is the same for all of our engine's regardless of who's manufactering the header. (Which is why they all look the same) If you can afford stainless, do it; it'll last longer and retain more of its resale value, which is important if you're planning to go turbo one day. If you can't afford SS, i agree with the OBX lovers around here.

Cheers.

all stainless is going to dis-color when it gets that hot.
