I'm gonna be grabbing a nice, low mileage S14 this month for a song (3,000 for under 60,000 miles). It gonna be a road course/drift style race car. The original plan was for a worked red top SR20DET with about 300RWHP and a lot of chassis litening. But I read up and found you can swap in an RB25DET engine so I was thinking of maybe doing that. Anyone have some details on it? Opinions? I know it'll screw up the F/R weight distribution, but I think that with some of the chassis work I could get it to around 52/48.

Well, nobody on this forum has an RB so the only info we could give you is theory and hearsay. So rather than listening to us guess and fight over which engine is better for this or that, I suggest you contact unstable-hybrids.com and ask them some questions. They would be the only ones who really know for sure how much more it will weigh and you would get nothing but accurate information.
I say go with the RB, just cauz I want to see one

Think you could ask him a few questions for me.

New motor mounts needed?

How did he fit in the transmission (custom crossmember?)?

Will I need a new driveshaft?

How is the overall feel of the car?

Or if you could have him Email me: [email protected]

Thanks everyone.

i'd go with the sr, especially if you are only looking for 300whp. the rb is nice, but if your oil pump goes out or ignition, your going to be s.o.l for while, parts just aren't available. Sr parts are easy to find now, and lots of companies are offering turbo upgrades to give you 300+rwhp for less than like $2500(past the price of the engine of course). I have a bonestock blacktop sr with only an m's intake and full three inch exhaust and i can barley keep the back tires going the same direction as the front.

Well with the SR I was looking for 300, but with the RB I was thinking 400-450.

If you get the RB, why not order some "just incase" extra replacement parts for the engine? As far as fitting it in there....I think I heard something about a custom crossmember and engine mounts. I have no idea about driveshaft tho. The people who do the RB swaps as a business ($$&#036 are tight lipped about the specs..but Im sure there is someone out there who would help you out.
