Well, I was on my way home from seeing a lil' lady, feelin' pretty good. I was getting on the on-ramp to 575N from Sixes Road (for those in the area), and got on it pretty hard. I don't usually drive stupid all the time, but when I feel the need to, an on-ramp to an interstate seems like a pretty safe place. When was the last time you saw a cop waste his time gunning people on on-ramps? I know I've never seen one. So obviously I was unpleasantly surprised when "LASER" pops up on my Passport as it emits a sound that scares my right hand all the way to the e-brake pull maneuver. At the end of the ramp I see the cop jumping in his car.

Usually if something like this happens (not that it does), I look for a quick neighborhood to dip into or something, but the next exit wasn't for a few miles. He was pretty far back, but as soon as his lights came on I just went ahead and pulled over. This is the conversation that ensued:

Officer: Where are you in SUCH a hurry to go this evening!? I clocked you with LASER at 78 mph on an ON-RAMP! And that's LASER! It couldn't have hit anyone else!

Me: I was heading home, I'm sorry I didn't realize I was going that fast.

Officer: Let me see your liscense, this is the second time I've pulled you over... (after he saw the dumbfounded look on my face he said) The first time was right after you got the car and I pulled you over for not having a tag. Sit tight for a couple of minutes.

*Officer goes to his car, then comes back*

Officer: Do you have insurance on this vehicle?

Me: Yes.

Officer: The reason I ask is because the state computer doesn't show you having insurance. Do you have an insurance card?

Me: Yes. (I give him the card)

Officer: Sit in your car for a few minutes.

*Officer goes to his car for about 10 minutes or so while I sat there asking myself why I'm such a fkn jackass and why I have to drive so fast for no reason. I thought about getting a slow-ass car so I wouldn't be tempted to drive fast. The officer approaches the vehicle once more. He holds out the laser gun to show me the reading*

Officer: See that!? 78mph at 455ft! I couldn't get in touch with your insurance company, so I'll just take your word on the insurance this time, but I better not ever catch you violatin' the law again! You aren't a NASCAR DRIVER! This is NOT a fast car! That exhaust you have is nothing but SHOW! It doesn't do ANYTHING! And it's ILLEGAL! Did you know THAT!? Anything but stock exhaust is ILLEGAL! My Sargeant loves to right tickets for that all day long! The next time I have to pull you over for violatin' the law other than for that exhaust I'm going to write you every ticket I can come up with and tow your vehicle!

Keep in mind that my S13 has an SR20DET swap, mildly modified. I wouldn't say it is blazing, but it is probably a mid to low 13 second car with a good driver, and it could definately rip his cruiser a new ass hole. I don't know how he could say that my car is not fast when he clocked me at 78mph at the top of the ramp lol.

Anyway, I still have no idea why he didn't write me a ticket for that one, because he was really, really, mad, and he must've really hated my car if he remembered pulling me over 6 months ago for not having a tag yet. I'm really glad he didn't write me a ticket though... Whew!

You should of told him it was rear wheel drive. They dont hate rwd imports as much as fwd. I got pulled over in my old 240 for "drag racing" and the cop was pissed, he was cursing like a MF. He took my licence, to take a good look at me, gave it back and said. Your lucky I'm in a hurry, but if I ever see you do some dumb shit like that again, Im taking you to jail and impounding the car. Then he just took off in his car. But 5 years ago I got pulled over in a dodge stealth rt (FWD) for drag racing and they took my licence for 1.5 years. That is proof they like rwd>fwd.

Maybe its because the Crown Vic is RWD.

Anyways, your lucky you got away with that one. You must have drove home like a grandma the rest of the way.

next time you see him, stop next to him, burn out and show him how fast your car is.

make sure to take a few video cameras.

I know Phaser's change the radar reading to 300mph if your going 25mph. But does anyone know if there is a way to reduce the change in mph so the cop reads 50mph if your going 25 (maybe a resistor?). I think it would be the most kickass birthday present to give one of my friends.

i dont really understand why cop thinks that way. if you actually think about it, an exhuast doesn do anything to emmission, anything after the cat should be okay as long as doesnt violate noise polution laws. Look at muffler shop, midas or whatever, those guys for sure dont sell u a nissan catback or a honda, or a toyota, those are custom fitted magnaflow stuff.

No problems with the police since my Mustang days, but I will deffinatley keep this in mind if I am ever asked to sign a ticket again.

it probably depends on the state

i think NJ was trying to pass a "no modification to any car ever" law a few years back.

that got everyone riled up, not just the ricers.

he was just trying to scare me. I know there can't be a law like that... I'm not even going to waste my time looking it up. Now the fact that it is 3" from the turbo back and loud as hell may make it illegal, and if not for the noise it is clearly illegal because of the lack of catallytic converter =P, but just because it isn't stock = cop making himself sound fkn stupid...

I think that's pretty funny.. and you're pretty lucky..

I remember back then when I drove my s14 to McDonalds one morning because I got to school and decided to ditch 1st period for breakfast.. On the way back.. there's a long stretch of a mile, and it's really open. It was getting sorta late, so I was in a hurry back to school.. i went like 90.. haha that's my fault though.. I was just being dumb. A cop pulled up behind me at the light, then pulled me over for no front lisence plate, tinted windows, and speeding.. I didn't get a ticket..
