LSD question

1st off, I bought an LSD from a 180sx. Its from Japan. Will this fit directly with no modification or extra parts into my '93 240sx? the 240 has no LSD obviously which is the reason why I want to put this in. If I need any extra parts, what do I need? Also, does anyone have any good how-to's other than the one on the main page?

Unbolt the 4 nuts on the face casing of the diff, then the bolts of the driveshaft and output shafts.

I personally unbolted all of the bolts on the driveshaft except one, so i could still spin it to reach the nuts and bolts of the output shafts. after you unbolt, get some kinda plyer, or screwdriver, and separate the outputshafts from the driveshafts. try hard, because its coupled. when thats done, there are 2 more bolts holding the diff up there. place a jack or somethin under the diff head (directly behind the casing head, where its most wide/heavy) unbolt those 2, and drop it down. When dropping it down, you'll have to wiggle it like your penis, until its loose, and come down easy. Don't drop this onyourself, cuz being the frail kid you are, it might kill you.

Then do everythin in reverse, and show your BF what you did, and call it a day, n snuggle.

oh just the LSD
gte a shop to do it for you
you fuck up..it blows up
and no axles? your fucked. yeah. you are.

if its vlsd
you will need VLSD axles
if its LSD you might still need VLSD axles
expensive from dealer
rare at junkyards

you should have just spend 700 bucks or so bought a nismo lsd and then spent another 80 bucks getting in installed and been done.

now you ar down whatever you paid and if you need alxes you'll spend another hefty chunk of change plus install, and a good shop would usually recommond new bearings when you put the diff in, something aftermarket LSDs come with

so do i need the axles too??? i would think this will fit into the diff. casing on there now and i could use the stock axles... why wouldnt that work?

if you dont mind, when trying to help me out... use sentences that can be understood so i know what you're trying to say, lol.

no, stock axles DO NOT repeat DO NOT fit on vlsds
and most older aftermarket lsds as well

i tried to break it down so a retard could understand
but thats ok, let me try again

you tried to cut corners and save money
bad move.
now you are going to spend MORE money to get it to work

you need (if your unit is a VLSD)
VLSD axles (left and right)
new bearings
a shop to install it for you
then put the entire pumpkin on your car

you can use your current pumpkin but buy the parts before you swap in the guts of course.

that makes sense right?

Let's clear up some confusion for ALL the people here- The axles fit fine. It's the output shafts that do not.

Thanks in advance.

Can you give me a link to that $700 Nismo LSD you speak of? Is it the whole rear diff and you just bolt it on? What would be the reccomended path (low cost, easy to install) to LSD for a 92 240sx?

VLSDs are craptastic! They mess up fast. IMHO, not worth it. I'd say get your open diff welded, and learn the ropes of 2way. Nismo GT Pro is a good upgrade after the welded diff. As with any 2way, there are chances you'll break your driveshafts. take the risk if you want. Learn how the weld reacts, then upgrade. and i'd say LSDs are and easy install. make sure you have the teeth matched up cuz if its not, you'll blow it to chunks. Anyone know where people could pick up those alignment tools?

importers always get used LSDs

but remember its USED
so COULD be good COULD be shit
mine's in th emiddle
definately needs a rebuild
but im also comparing it to my NISMO SSS which i bought brand new and is completely badass

this USED one is for my beater 240sx and it had a 4.3 which is perfect for that low power KA on a s13

but i use s14 on my SR too because 4.3 and s14s work great together for drift.so do s13s
shit 4.3s just rule.

eh dousan i hate u... LOL and i still havent found a decent price for those rr3 ebrake cables u speak of..

having the LSD installed isnt gonna be wise, because its gonna end up more costly, then just getting a vlsd diff with axles.... u want deals move to CA .. or find a local enough supply yard, that sells nissan parts...best bet...

kaaz = nismo. Let's not forget 2-ways can be very dangerous in wet weather.

I think when everyone meant junkyard, they are refering to VLSD that came with the Infinite J30, 300z, etc. For a J30, it would have to be a 93-94 in order for it to work. They are right, if you do get lucky and find one at the yard, might as well take everything. Its has a 5 bolt output shaft along with axles that will fit a 240.. Good luck with everything, I got lucky and found a vlsd with axles just recently off a 93 J30.
