I'm 98% sure the 5-speed and auto speed sensors are NOT interchangable.

I will second that notion. They are NOT interchangeable AND to add, the S13 KA speed sensor WONT work in an S14 and vice versa. I verified this on the weekend. *sigh*

so the only thing that will work is an s13 sensor from a ka tranny?

I have the one it came with, but it will read kilometers, correct?

No. If you look at a JDM cluster vs a US cluster you'll see the points line up for both speedometers. Either sensor will drive either gauge and be close enough to accurate. The sensor only sends a signal, it doesn't know whether the gauge is reading k/m or MPH and the output shaft isn't turning any differently than it would with a KA in front of it.

Well after installing a 92 KA sensor in my S14 SR tranny and still having no speedo reading, Id day its safe to assume they dont work. Besides the SR sensor looks to be elecrtonic whereas the S13 KA has a gel like substance in the casing which I assume to be different.

The only difference is per transmission (auto, 5spd) and chassis (S13, S14). Country of origin has no bearing.
