SMOG PROBLEMS (cali eng temp sensor)

okay guys i need some help here ... i have a california made s13 that had a cali ka24de ... i blew my block bought another engine and did a swap ... thing is that i bought a federal model ka24de engine ...

on this theres no place to connect engine temp sensor. my ecu is throwing that code at me ... only cali engines had to have a engine temp sensor ... sp what am i to do with a cali car and a federal engine? can i easy fix this by just finding a federal ecu?

i would do that ... just im looking for something faster n easier to do since im already late on turning in my smog ... i just couldn't ghetto rig the sensor somehow or like i was saying swap ecu's ... the place i took it to could find the wire n e ways so their labeled my car as a fed car wit a fed engine ... basically just gotta get rid of the check engine light

oh ... and on my test i ran good on everything except for NOx ... i think it was supposed to mesasure like 700ish and i had like 2000ish ... real bad haha ... im guessin thas cause im throwing a code meaning it looking for something not there i derno blah blah blah

I bet you could run a resistor to pretend you have a signal.

What year S13 is your car? I believe on 89 S13's the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor was wired in via a metal tube thru the lower radiator hose. The sensor screwed into the metal tube that was part of the radiator hose.

Your high NOX is due to no vacuum going to the EGR valve. Check the rubber vacuum lines that hook up to the EGR & BPT valves. The BPT valve has a short 3 inch vacuum line underneath it that usually cracks & melts due to underhood engine heat. If that line cracks/breaks/melts then you won't pull vacuum to the EGR valve resulting in high NOX readings. I seen it happen on several S13's & S14's cars I've worked on.
Anyhow...hope this helps..

Or, your EGR valve can be blocked with carbon and crap where it connects to the intake manifold. Thats what happened to me, but your EGR is most likely the culprit.

I have a Federal car in Cali, so I know about smog crap, I had to deal with it befroe and scared that in May it won't pass again.

just remove the bulb in your check engine light, then it wont look like its on.

also, there is somewhere for a enigne temp sensor, there has to be, otherwise your ecu would never know your coolant temp and wether to be in warm up mode, normal mode lol, or when its over heatings and pulling timing and shit.

haha yes illegal smog ... ummz my engine is a 93 ka24de ... what else ummz ... ok i think i found the wire that my engine temp is supposed to be ... can i just throw the sensor on it without hooking up the vacuums? i mean federal engine dont have places for them vacs to go since federal engines just dont have it.

can i really just remove the check engine light bulb ... i thought they do something to make sure its there and blah blah blah ... i might try to pull a fast 1 and do that ... lol ... but then again i still have high NOx. arghz ...
