ok that was just basically a rehash of a really tired old debate. Add to the fact that most of the guys debating it were not even getting their facts straight. I am not even going to entertain going down that road, hehehhehehhehehe look at my Avatar.

LAME ARGUEMENT.
then they got mad when i said i wanted one of their cars for a daily driver.

I replied since I'm a member there also and added my 2 cents. Dropping a KA engine into an Rx-7 would be a total waste and step backwards...

Rotary engine debate time.

I suspect since Mazda has been messing around with direct injection in their piston engines, they are attempting to branch off with this into their rotaries. I think this is half the reason Mazda is delaying the current rx7 which could be made by Mazda very easily noting most parts would come off of the rx8. I also do not agree with that there is no room for a 7 and 8 at the same time noting that Inifiniti offers the g35 coupe/sedan and Nissan with the 350z. 3 very similar sports cars by "one" company. The next rx7 will be naturally aspirated with a rather high compression ratio because of direct injection. Gas mileage and emissions will be increased greatly. I also see it maybe possible for a n/a 20b to be the engine of choice, this is mostly depending on how much better the gas mileage could be with direct injection. Naturaly aspirated rotaries are amazingly reliable, and I dont want to hear people start rotary bashing because almost none of you know what you are talking about.

now who is going to get in on this with me? Who else is going to go on the rx7 forum from here and educate, then link to this thread after we get it going better?

"discuss" (thats for a chances are rotary hating Texan on here.)

a 13B is not that bad. the reason they developed this negative reputation is because of

-stupid owners
-under/overengineered FD's blowing up stock (they need 'reliability modifications')

if you know what you're doing the FC's can last, especially the n/a 13B. i've seen many of them at 150k+ and still running strong.

i know what im talking about i actually work on them, and y'all are right about how the n/a lasts a lot longer... but the main reason why the turbos do not last (and some rotaries for example) is the apex seals, they just can't hold out that long, they get too much wear and lose compression in turn making it run worse and worse... causing more and more wear... but i still wouldn't want an RX7 too bad, they are fucking gas hogs... they have 850cc secondaries STOCK... i don't have anything against them though. Most people who buy them are very loyal to them, they sell it, then buy another, or keep theirs forever... they stay in the community i guess you'd say...

Aznpoopy is once again correct with his quote directed at you.

The 13B engine has developed a reputation for being high maintenance and so forth. Four of my best friends all have FD's (hence my member name SurroundedbySe7ens on the Rx-7 Club) and I've seen first hand what they're all about. I still believe dropping a KA engine in the car would be a dumb idea...

Right..that's why we're starting the big banker's club @ altamont. So far 4 SOHC Ka's have been able to pull 3rd gear drifts around the entire big banking of a 1/2 mile oval @ a 15ยบ bank. (Ok i cheated mine was in the rain)

The only engines Ive seen apex seals go out on in n/a form were in the 130k+ range or abused terribly. Heat and detonation are a rotaries enemy, if you experience much of either you are done. the 850cc(2 of em) secondaries make it sound worse than it is since when those fire, they fire only. They also only come in under power (for those who dont know) and the stock primaries are 550's I believe. That would make it have 286cc injectors if it was the comparable 6 cylinder which rotaries are always contrasted with. They do still get bad gas mileage, I just thought you made it sound worse than it is =P

Pretty close. The RX-7 actually has 550 primaries and 850 secondaries. That's only the third gen, as well... of which all are turbo. The second gen turbo has 550cc injectors for both the primaries and secondarys, while the non-turbo have 460cc injectors for both. First gens use 680cc injectors for both.

Non-turbo rotaries can be very reliable when properly taken care of. The problem is the average owner can't be bothered to check their oil levels or deal with cooling problems, and they kill their motors with neglect. Piston engines are much more resiliant when it comes to neglect that rotaries. I currently have a 87 non-turbo with 140k miles on it that still has great compression and has never been rebuilt. Of course, I also own a 88 turbo that blew up on me a few hundred miles after I bought it.

There have been a few rotaries that have recorded a quarter million miles and more.

All that said, I'm currently looking at picking up a 240 and going ka-t, because while a non-turbo rotary can be reliable at close to stock power levels... there's no way to maintain that reliability when you start making any real power. There's not a lot of building that can be done, and that build will only do so much.

That.... and if you really want to talk about having no torque, drive a rotary. I'm tired of having to rev it like I'm racing to get a decent start from a stop light.
