s13 doing 0.95G + at skidpad! 73mph at slalom!
I read an article about this s13 on this month's issue of sport compact car megazine. The white 90' with SR , according to the magazine, was able to do 0.95G and 73mph with its progressive coilovers.
I have megan coilovers. no other suspension mods yet. How do you think I can pull 73mph and 0.95G ? For those of you with coilovers, what is your slalom and skidpad numbers? |

The tires are going to be a huge part of that. I remember an old 510 with a 13B did 1G on the skidpad thanks to its Hoosier race tires in some Sport Compact Car event.
If you want to hit those numbers, get some race slicks, and start dialing in your alignment until you get there. The usual host of parts will probably be needed as well. Stuff like swaybars, and adjustable arms for the alignment settings you will need. That is just a very basic formula, what will actually work for your car and the surface you are testing on is a whole mess of variables. |

from what i understand, the key to big skidpad numbers is suspension with alot of give and extremely huge meats. like 275's all around.
They did something like this w/ a 350z a while back, w/ just bushings, sway bars and HUGE street tires all around (equal sizes) they pulled 1G or so

r compound tires are not any more expensive than other high performance tires I switched to A032Rs because they were cheaper by about 20 each than the potenzas I used on my transam

i remember one of the magazines contributing the high g reading on the skidpad for a viper to its massive amounts of torque allowing it to correct with slight tap of the throttle for oversteer in the skidpad

What does "dialing in alignment until you get there mean"?

Sometime you just wont have enough camber, so you have to dial it.

"dialing in" means to adjust to personal specification based on the results of testing.

Yep, you can futz a lot with toe/camber/caster to alter cornering grip, balance, and various other handling characteristics.
While some R comps are cheaper than some street tires (i.e. expensive Michelins, BF Goodrich), you can generally find a sticky street tire for way less than R comps. For example, Kumho MX is a good sticky street tire with high heat tolerance, and they cost less than any R comp out there. Ditto for Hankook Z212 and Falken Azenis, albeit without the heat tolerance. |

Sorry to wander off topic but do the Kumho MX's share any major similiarities with their other tires? Ive had decent expierence with their lower price tires but they seem to bubble easily from impact(pot holes)

You don't know what's a sticky tire until you run some Hoosiers...

Thanks for your replies.
I am interetsted in learning some more about suspension geometry and tuning. Searched for informations and found some bits and pieces here and there. Is there any book or website with comprehensive infos about the suspension geometry and tuning? |
