official conquest/starion wheels thread (56Kamikaze)

okay after much debating i broke down and snagged some starion/conquest rims from the junkyard knowing full well that the rear offsets may be too low. if this belongs in tech just move it, i just figured lots of people might want this info.

alright so we have three different rims here. turbo'd varients supposedly come only with 16x8 and 16x9's (staggered) but the car i found had 7's and 8's like the NA models so this test only involves the 7 and 8 inch wide rims.

the pis speak for themselves.

16x7 on the rear might need a little pulling and at least fender rolling but they fit pretty perfectly flush.

now, maybe the 16x9's would have a better offset (doubt it as they just have a higher offset adding rim to inside the wheel well). unless you add some fender by pulling or aftermarket bolt ons these suckers will look like crap.

this is why i believe the 16x9's just have a higher offset. notice how a TON of rim can still fit back there.

here's a shot of a 7 and 8 side by side

if anybody has anything to add or ask for go for it.

i'm almost certainly gonna sell them but if i did keep em they'd look like this when i was done:

but your car is stock suspension... drop it.. fole/pull fender via bat... negative camber.. it will look totally different then just rim on a uncompressed suspension..

i guess i won't sell em till i get coilovers and see what they look like when she's dropped. the cost of making them fit and cleaning them up is more than a good set of zigens with perfect offsets that wouldn't require any modification.

80% sure i'm gonna sell em

Damn.. It doesn't look too bad. Too bad you didn't pull/roll your fenders before you painted your car.

Just some clarification about the wheels. The earlier starions both turbo and NA came with 16x7 up front and 16x8 out back. The later model starions (88 and 89 i believe) had a factory option which included 16x8 up front and 16x9 out back. Note the offsets on the two 16x8s are not the same. If I recall correctly, the one that will best fit s13s are the FRONT 16x8s off the later models.

Fronts 16x7 +16 some offset
Rear 16x8 -12 some offset
Front 16x8 +16 some offset
Rear 16x9 +/- 0 offset

All tight best would be 16x9s all around

All Starquests were turbocharged. There were different suspension/trim/turbo packages though. Too bad those cars were such hand grenades...

Makato: Since you've done the 5 lug conversion, there should be a plethora of wheels that you can try to fit on your car: MKIII Supra 16x7 (91+ 5 stars) might be a good fit...

you have ur car jacked up, there is no spring compression like stated above and no camber added which is why the rim looks like it sticks out too much

having your car in the air with those rims mounted with NO tires is an inaccurate way to measure how the'y'll fit

go throw some cheap used tires on then mount them on the car on the ground...

i refuse to believe that setting the car on the ground and lowering is going to bring in a rim almost 2 inches to where it can fit under a stock fender. the 7's will prolly fit really well but i'm selling them all as a set so that's a no go. i guess if no one wants them i'll just have 2 extra 16x8's waiting for the day i get more fender.

What you could do to make the setup more realistic is to place teh jackstands under the LCA so your suspension is loaded.

it may not bring it in a whole 2 inches, but it will be way more precise into dialing in how much thick of a spacer, rolled fender, or camber you need...

i.e. do a search for SilviaDriver's post where he put 18x9.5 +22 on like you did. It stuck out literally about 1-1.5" outside the fender....then put tires on and sit it on the ground it fits easily....

for an "official" thread you would think there might be pics of tires mounted and the car sitting on the ground?

mount some tires on em and have at it chuckles. i only made this post so that people in the future could have something to search for to get an idea of how conquest rims fit on an S13. i'm not mounting tires just for an experiment/the good of others.

i'm already in the process of selling the rims anyhow.

p.s. its official cause i said it is cause i got dibs first.

i would think the rear wouldn't be an issue.
but offset has nothing to do w/ wheel/brake clearance.
and that's +18, not -18.

it does because spacers can be used to alleviate any such clearance issues thus making the offset of the wheel important in relation to said spacing and in need of appropriate compensation.

My 16x8s -10 on my friends car with 1 degree of camber, it'll be a tough fit on my car, but I run a lot more camber and the car hasnt settled yet.
