If your tranny is not in the best condition, it could.
I am waiting for my tranny to go out and when I have a new one to add a short shifter. Basically, if you shift faster, the syhcnros have to match the gears with less time. Apparently it is harder on them.

A short shifter will in no way damage your transmission. It doesn't change anything in the tranny itself. The only thing it does it change how you move the bottom part that 3 inches or however far to switch gears.
What Natty said is definately true, the syncros do have to work a bit harder when your craming it through gears as fast as you can move the clutch pedal. But its kind of like saying a lightened flywheel is bad for your engine because redlineing is hard on your engine and the lightened flywheel will make it easier to redline.

Just leave your foot on the gas a second(split second) longer so when you engage the gear it will be up to speed &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;like a quick pre-revmatch

ive found that at redline in my mr2 i could shift very fast puttin the clutch in about half an inch and not letting go of the gas, no grinding or anything, the only thing it did was wear the 2nd gear synco faster...other than that it was fine

Some people don't like tearing their tranny apart to replace syncros once a year. &nbsp;
But there is a reason for that. &nbsp;Just under redline, most trannys can be powershifted without the clutch at all just beacuase of the gears movements and speed.

this i know, and it helps when my dad owns a salvage yard, so i have tools and extra parts, but i never had to change the tranny, and it took a year and a half of abuse
