Turbo SOHC expectations
ok, I'm in the beginning stages of building a motor. I have a KADE with 89K that would be a good canidate, and I also have a 100K SOHC that I could build. So, I'm talking complete re-build with everything upgraded. I'm wanting to run a T66 turbo on the motor. Now, I want to see some numbers over 600hp. I know that a DE can make those numbers, but what about a SOHC? It is much cheaper to build a SOHC, but will it be able to make those numbers???? Please give me your thoughts. Thanks.

i have heard of some people doing the sohc slingers but in my opininon once you get into higher power ranges the dohc is more responsive and importantly reliable at higher power ranges but 600hp is asking alot from any fourbanger is it just for racing or daily driver?

I don't really think it's asking for a lot. They're plenty of guys on KA-T.org with over 600. This is def not a dail driver. I was just curious to see if the SOHC would put down the numbers that the DOHC can. Anyone have any good evidence that the SOHC can make it?

Yes it will.
Check out my thread...which you would have easily have found with a search...can't believe I had to say that. http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=86974 The highest HP KA in the world period thus far....but not for long is a 703 rwhp SOHC. I'm sure as soon as Ivan at EMS gets his drag car moving it'll put down 800+, but for now this is how it stands. I have pics of of it, but it really isn't all that disimilar to my own build. He had a bottom mount turbo manifold though, where as mine is top mount. Things start to really get custom with these power levels at least for the external side of the turbo fun. Everything in the block is easily accessible and cheaper than DOHC parts. I had mapped out most of it in the sticky KA24ET, or on ka-t.org with the "SOHC For Dummies" sticky. Personally I think the GT35R or GT40R is a much better choice than the old staple T66. My .02. Let me know if you have any questions not covered in those.=) |
