I have an s13 red top sr20det in my 92 240 hatch coupe. We did the swap ourselves about 4 months ago and it went pretty well. Mods are
JDM SR20DET Redtop
HKS Valve Springs
HKS Rocker Arm Stopper kit
Greddy Metal Head Gasket
Greddy 3” Downpipe
Apexi N1 3" Catback Exhaust
3” Test Pipe
Stage 4 Clutch
Apex-i SAFC (version 2)
Full HPI FMIC intercooler kit
HKS SSQ BOV.
Drove the car for no more than 500 miles. The idle has always been jumpy and would basically stall if you didnt keep your foot on the pedal. There all of a sudden was a loud ticking going on and smoke coming out of the breather. Gapped the plugs to .030, changed the oil with synthetic. Started it up and it ran fine for about 10 minutes. Then it started jumping again and spitting smoke out of the breather. It also was ticking pretty loud and it got louder with rpm increase. Also more and more smoke would come out as you increased rpm. I’m thinking severe blow-by. Piston ring(s)? Right now its un-driveable and it wont even idle anymore, you have to keep your foot on the pedal. Does it sound like I need a new motor?

Start with the basics. Any codes? Have you set timing correctly? Who installed the valve springs? Compression test? Have you changed any of the settings on the AFC? And yes, it sounds like you need a new motor.

first, whats a 92 240 hatch coupe????

but on the serious not, what are your safc settings? and are you sure all your gaskets and seals are good? timing makes sense........

Well first off...lift your valve cover and see the status of the head. CHeck to make sure your getting oil to the head *if its staved, you can tell by seeing shavings and burnt caking oil deposits*. COuld have started ticking and smoking due to oil starvation. Ticking that gets louder with rpm is not a good thing. It could be something in the head or worst...rod knocks.
